Hi all,
I will be buying my first (new) CNC lathe next week.
I'm a mill guy and need some insights on turning tools. I'm familiar with the basics but require some advice regarding tooling/must have tooling.
I do small series and one offs.
Holders:
I'm thinking about Seco Jetstream holders. So...
Hi all
I have a question regarding lathes.
I currently outsource all my lathe work. Most of my work is small series and one off parts (max part size around 200mm), max length 250mm.
But I'm getting more and more requests for turning work from my customers. I'm no lathe guy...i'm not even a...
Hi
I'm in the market for a tool presetter.
Various brands...Zoller, Haimer and so on.
I'm currently investigating which presetter suits my workflow.
But I'm curious how companies transfer the data to the machine. And what works best for them.
- Printing labels and entering the offset data...
Hi all
I've got a question regarding high feed tools.
They don't like tight corners so I try to prevent that in my CAM toolpaths.
Other thing I came across is that they don't like vertical walls. When fully in the cut they sound nice and smooth
But once they cut next to a wall they make a...
Hi all
I'm in the market for a 5 axis CNC mill with automation.
- No 3 axis machine with a trunnion. Like a Okuma Genos 5x
- minimum of 500mm in X
- I prefer integrated automation by the manufacturer instead of of relying on a 3th party
- Minimum of 4 pallets
- I won't be doing 24/7 production...
Hi
I'm curious if this will work...
I want to do offline presetting of my tools. Just the toollength, I don't care about diameters.
Those fancy toollength setters are an option. But way too many features for what I want,
I just want to set lengths and that's it. So the machines can keep running...
Somehow I'm not finding out why it doesn't work like I want.
Control: Mitsubishi M70
I have a 3D taster which I use to set WCS
I use a 100mm height toolsetter to touch off my tools
I've set Surf height to 100 (height of my toolsetter)
I touch of my tools on the toolsetter and hit the...
Hello
I have a Hurco VM10i. The chip auger is throwing a overload error.
The overload protection is triggered. When I turn it back on the auger turns for around a minute. And the overload protection is triggered.
I checked for loose wires.
The auger itself isn't jammed
I'm no electrical genius...
Hi
I'm quickly in need of a machine for one specific job I got.
It's around 10 weeks of work and after this job it will be up for sale.
I can get a Emco E900 (year: 2008) mill with Siemens control and fairly low hours.
It will be used for Aluminium and Delrin.
Is it a decent machine? Can't find...
Need some tooling advice
Need to make some series of parts which have some deeper pockets (110mm)
I can finish the inside with a 20mm ballnose. That's not an issue.
But what's the best way to rough it out?
Material: Aluminium
Should I get a 16mm or 20mm round insert cutter? I've never used...
I currently own a 2019 Hurco VM10i.
Good machine but doesn't have the balls to hog material. And is costing me allot of time because I can't push it hard enough on the big parts.
Besides of an upcomming job (which takes a couple of weeks for 1 customers) I need to remove workload from my current...
Hi
I need to make a few custom cutter bodies for inserts.
Which steel is generaly used for cutter bodies?
Most of the time i make them out of 4140 PH. But maybe there is a better option?
Just curious from which steel they are made.
Hello
Which toolholder is recommended?
I'm in search for a holder to hold 25mm carbide shanks with long stickout (+/- 150mm) for screw in insert cutters (some high feed stuff).
My tooling rep recommends NT Tool milling chucks. But they have a pretty long gauge length?
Are there better options?
I'm looking for same advice on the following:
customer comes in and needs stainless 316 plates machined.
Simple part. 180mm round disk and some bolt holes.
But...it's 4mm thick and one side with the holes (countersink) should be flat within 0,2mm,
They already made some out of 316 plate material...
I machine most of the time assemblies for customers.
These are a bit complex and I always make a few extra. So that if I screw something up or a tool brakes I don't have to go back to operation 1.
This cost me a few minutes extra. But if I have to start from the beginning it will cost me a...
My shop doesn't have a CMM
But I get more and more complicated parts where it could come in handy.
And I want to be able to supply a measurement report.
I can buy a Tesa Micro Hite 3D
One like this: Three-dimensional machine Tesa Micro-Hite 3D RC - Measurement and control - Three-dimensional...
Hi
Anyone knows the angle of the cutting edge of a CCGT inserts?
I mean the angle on the sides.
The cutting edge is 80 degrees if I'm correct. But I'm searching for the side angle
I need to cut some splines on a driveshaft.
I bought a cutter so I can cut them in one go (DIN 5481). But the angle of the splines is bigger.
I can cut the splines on some test pieces with the DIN5481 cutter and use multiple passes to get the right angle.
But I prefer to cut them in one pass...
I'm trying to find out which thread is being used.
The outside diameter of the thread is 14mm
Inner diameter is 10,8mm
I was expecting it to be trapezoidal 14. But trapezoidal 14 should be 14,5mm outside diameter
So it's something else
Besides when I measure the pitch it's not 3mm or 4mm...
