Chinese lathe good enough for my needs?

I have no issue with import machines, just the machine that you showed in your original post. I have worked with a very similar lathe and it was not a pleasant experience. The cross slide was just to flimsy for me to do anything useful with it in a reasonable amount of time. the second one...

Chinese lathe good enough for my needs?

That lathe is just a rebranded Grizzly. It is not a very rigid or powerful design. I would not recommend it for hobby use much less any type of professional use.

    How did you do this?

This can be done on a regular lathe with a few modifications.

OT: Hilti has a new product, a sort of exoskeleton

If they are anything like the EZRigs, you can swap out the gas spring for a heavier duty one.

OT: Hilti has a new product, a sort of exoskeleton

As pricey as it seems, it's still half the cost of an EZRig, which is the film industries version of this.

StanF South Bend 9A Rebuild Thread

I have a similar lathe and have mounted mine to a similar bench top. While the height isn't ideal it works fine.

    Tapping fluid that doesn't stink.

I would suggest boe lube. The smell is fairly inoffensive, and it works wonderfully.

    Phase II rotary table help

I used Vactra #2 on mine, while it leaks like sieve, it works well. As far as it being hard to turn you do have to adjust the backlash. It sounds to me that the mesh between the gear was to tight. Look on page 5 of the manual for how to adjust.

    Solder Wire Connectors

I used a heat gun which got it hot enough to actually solder the connection as well. The heat shrink was tough enough to take the heat with out burning up.

    Solder Wire Connectors

I've used them for a few projects with good results. I'm pretty sure the ones I used came from McMaster. https://www.mcmaster.com/products/connectors/splice-type~butt-splice/solder-loaded-heat-shrink-crimp-on-butt-splices/
