Best way for obtaining new work

Can you do custom manifolds for cartridge valves or custom cylinders?

    My employee is too slow.

A lot of employees end up with that responsibility and stress from the business they work for. Sure, they don't have as much to lose but they also have little to gain. And it gets worse when the worker has responsibility to keep things going but don't have the authority to make it happen.

    My employee is too slow.

On average. You can get employees that are as fast as you. But they quickly move on to run their own business. Because why would they put the same amount of effort doing the same work and giving a huge cut to some guy who keeps telling him what to do?

OT: Polycarbonate thickness for vacuum chambers

Acrylic is more prone to shattering, and I'd like to avoid a face full of shrapnel

OT: Polycarbonate thickness for vacuum chambers

Consider that the entire rough cut chunk of polycarbonate was only $500. Actual dimensions came out to 12-1/16" x 50-3/8" x 1-1/16". I don't know that I could get smaller circular windows for much cheaper, at least not large enough or in enough quantity to allow me to see as much as I want to. I...

    When does NET30 start?

How do you even get this to work though? If you have that 10% off on the invoice they're going to pay that 10% reduced amount regardless of how long that invoice sat. Do you then try to collect the remaining 10%?

    When does NET30 start?

A customer will never tell you they might go under before 30/60/90 days is up. And one of the first things a failing business does to try and stay afloat is pay suppliers as late as possible.

OT: Polycarbonate thickness for vacuum chambers

I actually made a bad batch of parts by overheating the epoxy before. It was an expensive mistake.

OT: Polycarbonate thickness for vacuum chambers

Possibly, but that's a lot of work. I'm going to silicone it into an aluminum frame just to cap the edge and give me handles and reinforce the vacuum port hole. I'll just use a strip of rubber on the aluminum frame to press on the channels and I'm sure that will seal well enough.

OT: Polycarbonate thickness for vacuum chambers

That's a lot harder for me to gauge. Polycarbonate can deflect significantly before failure, and glass can't. I'd guess that glass in this size should be an inch and a half thick, but maybe one inch is fine. The main reason I went with polycarbonate is that it is the least likely to fill my face...

OT: Polycarbonate thickness for vacuum chambers

I just received the 1" thick piece of 12x48 polycarbonate. I got it from Boedecker Plastics for $492.84, shipped to my door, which is $1k less than anyone else who would talk to me. The rep I spoke to was Mary and she is wonderful to work with. I highly recommend them. The polycarbonate I...

    Aluminum bowl milling advice needed

I'd put it on a rotary table off axis of a boring bar. Though I didn't do any math to make sure the boring bar wouldn't have to have some ridiculous diameter.

Making some forming dies, how much space to leave between the two dies for the part to be formed?

I agree that this won't work without additional moving parts. Either a clamp to deep draw it or wedges. Far better to make a joggle die.

    When does NET30 start?

When I do net 30 it's from the invoice date, and the invoice date is when I send or hand them the invoice. It's also usually the day it gets picked up or shipped out.

How would you build a sound proof compressor room?

I think the larger the compressor is, the less high pitched the whine is. Our 40HP compressor has a significant tonal whine, but it's so low pitched it doesn't bother anyone.

How would you build a sound proof compressor room?

The hassle of compressors being outside or in a hot box is not worth it to me, IMO. Doing maintenance in a cramped shed sucks too. When I set up my next shop I'm getting a 10HP screw compressor and putting it next to the next loudest machine (probably a dust collector).

    Windpowered 16mm Camera Help

This is easy to solve with a linkage. It depends on the detail of the camera but a sloppy gear and spring or a ratchet or similar can get uniform travel speed over a narrow range, regardless of the shaft rotation speed.

    Windpowered 16mm Camera Help

I made a scrap metal windmill for my mom and to my surprise it actually spins easily with very little wind. I made no effort to make it do that. I would just use a small belt from a small pulley to a very large pulley, turning 90 degrees around some idlers. It would still be plenty low friction...

Cutting W24 beam down the center...how much warpage?

I've seen a guy cutting a beam in half in a third world country looking area and it basically exploded into opposing bananas. I have never tried it myself.
