    3D Printed Gears

You've just demonstrated it yourself. The parts were so bad you had to face them in a lathe and they already blew the keys out where your phenolic ones never did that. You're spending dozens and dozens of hours trying to prove that some gloop squirted out of a tube is as good as reinforced...

    3D Printed Gears

What's best for people who have an actual need of functioning gears is that they buy some phenolic, cut it into squares, turn those into round blanks, pop them on an arbor, set the index and feedrate and half an hour later have several accurate, functioning parts with known, dependable...

    3D Printed Gears

You've got a little medical knowledge, do I have that right ? So a guy has a gall bladder infection. How about if we take a mandrake root, soak it in whiskey for three days, bury it between the roots of an oak tree under a full moon with seven rhododendron leaves. Don't forget to dance...

    3D Printed Gears

and none of these methods - NONE - is going to be even one half as good as just turning the blanks on a lathe then tossing a stack onto an arbor and slamming your way through a bunch of teeth. Approximately half hour setup on any gear hobber known to man. Not even ten minutes cutting time per...

    Shars Height Gage

You need an electronics hobbyist ... the displays are often replaceable with inexpensive generic parts from digikey but knowing which one works is the tricky part. My beloved Fluke and HP-41 have both had the same catastrophe. You can find web pages by hobby guys showing how they repaired those...

Machine both ends of a bar at the same time

Still hot about it :( If those idiots had their way everyone who makes or sells microwaves, dishwashers, washing machines, televisions, radios, cars, excavators, closet safes, hell just about everything would be paying Hurco royalties. It's so stupid. and btw, hurco would be paying leonardo...

    O/T: a strong bear and 20th anniversary

At least we know it wasn't a chinese bear, no matter what Joe Biden and "intelligence sources" may say :D

PAST meeting is on for this Saturday in Salinas, CA (Actually Spreckles)

It's Spreckels, rim. The sugar family, not the disgusting little things they try to sprinkle on top of your banana split. That was a huge place for sugar beets at one time, before the general public got screwed into accepting carcinogenic hfcs in our sody pop. When they gave up on New Coke and...

Machining a Famco #1 Arbor Press pinon gear

Then just make a fly tool to match, rough it with a milling cutter of some sort, and have at it. You're not going to find any off-the-shelf cutter for that anyhow, and even if you did it'd be "too expensive !" Looks like possibly a split pitch, I don't think I've ever seen space cutters for...

OT: Hydraulic position / stroke control / end of stroke valves

I'm sure a lot of ways to do it, just thinking the whole thing is all set up in one unit this way, easy to mount, not a bunch of pieces to bolt together. With your description, seems like these (I think they are spool valves) could be one pretty simple way to go. But I'm not a hydraulics...

OT: Hydraulic position / stroke control / end of stroke valves

Here's an example - the trip dogs on the table flip the lever back and forth, that changes the oil flow from one cylinder to another, or one end of a single cylinder to the other. They are not thousandths-accurate because it's hydraulics, but better than a sixteenth. Probaly better than that...

WTB 48 DP 14.5° PA #3 involute cutter

You could have cut out the middle man and gone straight to JC Whitney, saved a couple bucks ... Why in the eff would you do this ? Ash Gear ! They've only been THE place to buy gear tools for the past sixty years. btw, a lot of their lower-cost stuff comes from China too. But I think they...

OT: Hydraulic position / stroke control / end of stroke valves

Would the table traverse valves that most grinders use work for you ? That stuff ought to be plenty available and proven.

Machining a Famco #1 Arbor Press pinon gear

You go in the scrap pile, drag out a 3" piece of bar, stick it in the south bend and make a blank. Scrounge around in the drawers, dig out a 1/2" piece of HSS, braze it across the end of a 3/4" chunk of cold finished, hand grind it to the shape you need. Drop the thing onto an indexing head and...

Modelling gear hobbing 'exit' in Solidworks?

Don't know how solidwurx does this but will mention - the shape of the tooth space has to be at right angles to the helix. In fact if one were contour milling these teeth I'd be concerned about the shape just being twisted, not sure what you are really getting that way, but for artistic purposes...

Machining a Famco #1 Arbor Press pinon gear

One can't be 100% sure that a bear shits in the woods, or a hobby horse has a hickory dick, or the pope is catholic .... but it's a pretty good bet. Small numbers of teeth like an arbor press are seriously undercut and weak unless they are cut long addendum, drop tooth, spread centers, whatever...

Modelling gear hobbing 'exit' in Solidworks?

Have to admit, I love it when someone else is just as pigheaded stubborn as me :D I could be kind of mean and ask if you are going to model the tip relief on that part as well :)

Modelling gear hobbing 'exit' in Solidworks?

Hey ! You artist guys aren't as dumb as you look ! pretty clever. Took a quick look at solidworks, according to some youboobs twisting a solid looks pretty easy. Nice :D

Modelling gear hobbing 'exit' in Solidworks?

Showoff :D Looks nice, actually. Did you just throw a construction plane up at the helix angle where the teeth ended, then drop an arc on that ? I was thinking that'd probably be plenty good for this. You're supposed to teach a man to fish, ya know ... Here, let me make myself useful for web...

Modelling gear hobbing 'exit' in Solidworks?

Have done this in Pro/E (slowly, practice makes perfect and it isn't something I do every day) so I'd be shocked if saladwurx can't do the same thing. Example - just switch from extrusion to a cut : some pointers about the technique...
