I am looking for *any* information. I bought one via ebay and it will not zero but pegs with either of my 599-988 sensors attached. The sensors clearly work.
I've done a lot of looking, but found nothing. Not even a YouTube video describing them.

What is it reasonable to ask a distant dealer to do as a substitute for a personal inspection? The cost for a personal inspection and pickup is $500+ for a machine 800 miles away. That's a chunk of money and a lot of drive time to spend only to say no and drive home.
On a $4000 purchase is...
I have been making a repeat-o-meter for checking surface plates using an ebay $31 Chinese electronic half tenth/1 um gauge.
It seems to work properly so I decided to try measuring the thickness of my typical application of Canode using a Speedball soft rubber printer's brayer.
Repeated...
My apologies if everyone else knows this already. But this might save someone else from reinventing the wheel.
I have for many years used wet or dry SiC paper on a B grade 9 x 12 plate for lapping. I wet both sides of the paper and press it down on the plate with my fingers. I suspect a lot...
I've seen a lot of posts on the subject, but haven't found any results reported. Where are we? Has anyone posted an open source design?
This is something I've been interested in for several years. I'm inclined towards a 2D capacitance solution, but having picked up a couple of new LVDTs for...
I thought some of you might be interested.
I just received a pair of these in immaculate condition and packed incredibly well.

Shipping took 5 weeks.
I've bought a few LVDTs on ebay. Before I launch into designing a readout I thought I'd see if anyone else has done this.
Analog Devices makes a couple of parts, the AD598 and AD698, which are a complete analog implementation. All that's needed is a display of the output voltage properly...
I received a precision bench center today, so to try it out I put some ebay/Amazon MT series test bars I'd bought between centers and put my tenth indicator on the bars. There was no discernible needle movement anywhere I tested. And a tenth mike showed no variation in diameter of the...
Plating is used to rebuild things like very large marine engine cylinders among other things. Iron plating can be as much as 0.1" thick in routine practice. Hard chrome, nickel, etc not so thick. But certainly a few thou.
Bridgeport advertises that their mills have chromed ways. I've never...
I'm considering buying a new manual lathe in the 10 x 24 to 14 x 40 range. I'm looking for suggestions. I've looked at Grizzly, Precision Matthews and Standard Modern so far. Sadly the latter is out of my price range.
I currently have a well worn Clausing 4902 with a very complete set of...
How does one lap internal tapers in hardened steel?
An abrasive vee block takes care of an outside taper. But what can one use for an inside taper? Think sleeves on an expanding lathe arbor as an example. Small diameter inside tapers.
The objective is precise tapers, not simply precise...
This is primarily a question for Richard, but I thought I'd let others weigh in.
While I wait for dial bore gauges and adjustable arbors to arrive so I can finish the lap for the spindle I've been amusing myself in my free time by scraping a small 2 5/8" x 1 1/4" block of ductile iron bar...
I've never even been in the same room with a cylindrical grinder. The MG12 looks to be an appropriate size for my purposes. Unfortunately, the machine in question is 2000 miles away. So first hand inspection is not very practical.
A search on PM showed that Millacron sold one a few years...
I'm considering having my Clausing 4902 reground. Does anyone know of a shop that does such work relatively near to central Arkansas (e.g. Memphis, St. Louis, Houston or DFW)?
Thanks,
Reg
After lots of investigation and thought I think I'm ready to "grind" the spindle and thought it might prove useful to document the method and results here.
I've determined that I need to remove 0.00005-0.0001" from the rear journal and 0.00025 - 0.0003" from the front journal to bring them...
I just received a pair of Chinese 0.0002"/10" levels, a 6" and a 6" x 6" which I thought might be of interest here.

I just received a pair of new Trans-Tek 0216-00000 linear LVDTs with calibration certificates. These have a core threaded at both ends.
What's the best material to use for the actuator arms to get the best accuracy? I'd like to get millionth accuracy from these if that is possible...
I was reading the "fits and tolerances" section of "Machinery's Handbook" today and it appears I've been interpreting what I've read incorrectly. To wit, I've been interpreting bearing tolerances as spindle and housing tolerances.
However, I'm unsure about the nomenclature. I *think* that for...
I've got two of these, mine and Dad's. I'd like to put aluminum oxide wheels on one of them, but have had a very hard time finding any. Why? I did locate a 46-K on ebay via a PM thread, but no 80-100 grit. Just a plaintive question seeking the same with no answer...
