    New barrel from manufacturer chambering

Ok school me. Show me how to measure the position of the cone with a depth mic and a head space gauge on a kelbly. The cone is a continuous taper to the chamber so there is nowhere for the depth mic to reference. Normally use a ball or a tapered plug in conjunction with a depth mic and a collar.

    New barrel from manufacturer chambering

A case or a head space gauge wouldn't have shown a bolt nose clearance problem. Possibly some soft lead wire or plastigauge would have been the simplest method without getting into making a custom gauge with depth mic setup

    New barrel from manufacturer chambering

A reputable barrel manufacturer will help spec a barrel (twist and profile) and any decent reamer maker will be able to supply a reamer to standard or custom spec if needed. A blank won't have a neck. Your reamer will cut the neck as well as the rest of the chamber. The neck diameter needs to...

    Barrel Threading

What about a backing nut instead of a shoulder like a self timing brake?

    Bridgeport tormax for chambering??

Good dimensions and weight. Just make sure the length through the spindle is short enough to be able to hold the barrel in the chuck and an outboard spider. You'll need a thread chasing dial and a an imperial lead screw would be best

Large Radius Bend in 3/8" Plate

Agreed! Divide it up into 6 or 8 bends and it will come out smooth and no need for stuffing around making custom dies. Also 50t sounds a bit lite to be pressing this in one pass anyway?

    Welding thick 304 SS

As a new welder then I'd suggest using a stick welder providing you can make all your welds in the 2F position. Stainless stick is pretty easy to get looking really nice in the downhand position. Other positions it's more difficult than using a 7018. The machine is cheap, electrodes are a bit...

2" annular cutter going partway through material

Used annular cutters on a fair bit of structural steel in the past and recently had a similar issue with several hougen bits. They would cut for a bit then just stop. Having a look at the cutting edge they seemed like new. Looking really close at the outer corner of the flute and they were...

    Weld Specimen

What about a long annular cutter fed in from each end of the weld at a shallow angle? You won't get a "T" piece like the fantasy drawing is showing but if you cut the sloped tails off each end it will give you a cross section of the weld and heat effected zone. Something like a magnetic drill...

    Solidworks customer support contact info?

Thanks for your input everyone. This site is very anti newbie so if like to get a bit of a foundation before asking here. First thing I want to resolve is why I can't open any of the "public communities" in the 3D experience. From what I can gather this is basically a replacement of the...

    Solidworks customer support contact info?

Hi everyone, Have started learning Solidworks at work so to speed up that process and use it for some useful projects at home I signed up to a subscription for "3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS for makers". Obviously being brand new to the program I have a lot to learn and questions that need...

Clausing Colchester model question for manuals

Google "Colchester triumph 2000 manual" and you get plenty of hits for free PDF's. They are very detailed with good exploded drawings etc

Stainless passivation dip tank and chemical?

The tank we had was just a dip with no power source. It was a simple dip and then pressure wash and worked well but have no idea what chemical it was.

Stainless passivation dip tank and chemical?

Hi All, We are doing a fair amount of small stainless fabricated items. Anything from welded tube assemblies 2"X2" to sheet metal assemblies 2'x2'. Majority of this is TIG welded with some MIG and has varying degrees of weld discolouration. Currently using a TIG brush and it works but very...

Video: Three vendors can't make a simple frame to spec.

Jig tables help with setup speed and accuracy. Once the welding starts IMHO your better of having it in a position that it can move and you can measure it. If you weld it all in the jig then once you pop it out it moves your going to waste a lot of time with the heating torch and a wet rag to...

Video: Three vendors can't make a simple frame to spec.

Done quite a lot of fabrication. Everything from earthmoving, structual, food processing and into mineral sampling lab equipment in a range of different materials. In general, the tolerance of GOOD fabricated and welded items is .020" for things under 1', .040" for things 1' to 2yd, and .080"...

    Best YouTube Cad tutorials?

Thanks for all your suggestions. Autocad is probably the standard around here but I'll see where I end up and find out what specific program they use. Agreed with some comments above. I like to have a project in mind so the learning process is useful and run 2 monitors. One for the project and...

    Best YouTube Cad tutorials?

I have a basic understanding of CAD but would like to learn more including 3D drawing. I don't have time to take off work to do official training and like to have something to refer to while I'm working on real projects. Can anyone recommend some good YouTube channels for learning basic...

What do you look for in a potential gunsmith hire?

Couple of other videos that you might find interesting about Bruce and BAT actions. Gavin does some other full builds on his channel. I'm not going to enter into if all their practices are "the best" debate but it gives you an idea of fitting barrels and assembling modern rifles and methods...
