I'm slowly finishing everything that was back-burner'd from restoring the 10ee. I broke this part EE-2809 when I was cleaning everything because the set screw was completely painted over and I missed it.
I modeled it in fusion and made a replacement. For some reason, I cannot make decent...
I made up some chip guards out of an aluminum baking dish, and made a cad file of the template. You can 3d print the STL file and just roll with that if you want something quick and dirty, or use it as a template on a baking sheet like I did.
the screws are wrong, I'll change them out later...
if this is dumb, let me know.
here's my thingiverse file.

I made a chamber in the small end to fit a .223 boresight laser, $8 on amazon. even if this is off axis, it will draw a circle around the axis, so it is quick and easy. This drew a tiny circle...
Finally getting close to the end of this rebuild, 2 years into a 6 month resto. As I'm filling various parts of the lathe with oil to chase leaks, I overfill the spindle area and quickly realize the drain line isn't hooked up. Found where I stashed it and couldn't figure out where it is...
Embarrassing problem here, Does anyone recognize this bushing right off the bat? it's a 3/4" bore with oil grooves. I am finally getting to the end of my rebuild and I have this left over. Can't for the life of me remember where it went. I did not get into the headstock so I know that's...
Can someone please post some pictures of the knob/latch for the top belt/pulley cover on a square dial? This machine didn't come with covers and the ones I sourced did not have this knob. I have the spring latch assembly that is under it (pictured) but I can't find any drawings or detailed...
I'm re-assembling my square dial 10ee and I have a question about this. seems like it took packing or waxed string here? I don't have anything there at the moment and I'm wondering what actually goes here. Might be the incorrect part number, but whatever goes in the threaded area, behind the...
I haven't seen this in other monarchs, but my lathe base has this tar undercoat garbage sprayed everywhere. I want to paint in here but some of it is soft as grease and some is hard as a rock. Heat gun doesn't soften. At first I thought it was diy, but it really is everywhere and seems...
I'm attempting to get a drive system put together for my 10ee square dial I'm restoring and the vfd setup it came with didn't have the back gear. Does anybody have one they are willing to part with? I know it will be a good bit of work to adapt. I'm not in a hurry, it will be a while before...
I'm helping out an instrument repair guy with some small projects. He has this simple tool that fits a brass mouthpiece inside a split steel collet and compresses it in a fixture to shrink the neck to fit. Pictured is a couple of collets and a mouthpiece. Issue is, I made a couple of collets...
I have been piecing together a taper attachment for a while now, and I wanted to provide some photos and measurements to those seeking info about it. I see very few differences overall, and looks like only mounting hole spacing would keep you from using one from a different style machine.
Here...
I am contemplating bluing (rust bluing) the tailstock spindle, tell me how bad an idea this is.
a little background, I live in Louisiana and the humidity here is a slow motion holocaust against good machines. I'm pretty good at rust-bluing for firearms preservation and knives, etc. and it...
I have been collecting parts to return a missing TA to the square dial 10ee I'm restoring. I had one kind gentleman gift me the main castings some time back that are the style shown below. (photo from internet)
Now, I recently purchased a full TA and restored it, but noticed it is of a...
Kid's hoverboard went out and I got some inspiration after watching Stefan Gotteswinter's chinese diamond wheel sharpener.
$12 dollar controller on amazon
3d printed a backing wheel with spots for harbor freight magnets:
cut 5 degrees on some 2x4's with an accurate chopsaw and built a rest...
Bought a 7EL off the 'bay and it worked fine for about 20 minutes or so. it locked up and sheared the teeth off the helical gear, Yay! Did some inspection and found that the adjustment screw for stroke length had lost it's castle nut, allowing the screw to back out and bind.
broken screw end...
This machine came to me without any of the original drive components, just a 5hp motor and an old VFD. I'm going to upgrade the VFD to a larger size so I can run it single phase and I want more of the modern wiring options.
My question is, what to do with the drum switch? I really like the...
My tachometer is missing the needle and glass but everything else seems to be there. Because the glass is gone, the printed dial and numbers have either been rubbed away or dissolved by chemicals. My plan is to go to a print shop and have a new dial face made from vinyl, but I want to be as...
I found Kerzom's thread on 10EE sight glass 3d printing https://www.practicalmachinist.com/forum/threads/oil-level-sight-glass.389520/ , and I really liked the idea. the only problem is it doesn't look quite right once assembled.
Parts:
1- 23.9mm x 2mm watch crystal from allwatchparts.com...
I'm refurbing a '50 10EE and I have a couple of questions. First is this cross-slide dial seems a bit unusual. It is longer than others I've seen and has an internally geared extra ring, like what I would assume a metric/imp dial would have, but it is only imperial. I've never seen one like...
The entire Carriage Bracket casting shown below. Machine had a TA sometime in the past but it is gone. I've purchased a bunch of parts from a member here that was parting his out recently and I still need the main bracket. Not sure which of the part numbers refers to the main casting.
