2007 Mini Mill requires new way covers to replace wipers?

I've got a 2007 Haas Mini Mill, and the wipers are shot. Called my HFO and they said they couldn't find a PN for the wipers, and the only way to replace the wipers is to order new way covers. That would cost 1300 bucks... which is ridiculous. Pulled the way covers off to check, and the wipers...

Turret Alignment Procedure - Mazak Quick Turn 350

Have you seen this video? Also, you may not have taper pins if the machines have been worked on before. I just aligned an integrex milling spindle alignment, and there were no taper pins at all. Don't loosen the bolts up entirely. Crack them loose and then align them with a dead blow. Once...

Angled parting insert to stop catastrophic tool failure

It's mass production with a bar puller. Right now I have to babysit every part off, but it should be able to run unattended if parting tools survive.

Angled parting insert to stop catastrophic tool failure

Currently using a neutral, and I'm not going from .375 entirely... I start with 1 5/8 round bar, I'll get some photos together to get a better perspective. I put in a peck cycle this morning to get smaller chips, and it seems to be helping a bit. Once the insert wears though it seems to create...

Angled parting insert to stop catastrophic tool failure

I wondered how long it would take for someone to say this. I have an NDA, so I'll draw something up tomorrow for reference.

Angled parting insert to stop catastrophic tool failure

I've been thinking about doing that. Does anybody peck when they're that close to the center though? You're out of SFM and I've wondered if the peck will overload the insert when it comes back into the cut. What kind of peck depth would you try?

Tools to Make Gears on 3+1-Axis Mill or Live Tool Lathe

This is easy... been there and done that on this exact machine. The DDRT rotary has really good indexing accuracy. You'll be fine. Make a blank, mount it to an arbor so you have enough clearance, set zero to rotational center, slot through the center of the tooth, rough & finish with a ball...

Angled parting insert to stop catastrophic tool failure

Hey so imagine you're making a 17-4 H900 Dorito chip in a live tooling lathe. You've created a 3mm grove behind the Dorito, you mill around the outside to create the final profile, and the final shape is now attached to your bar stock via a 0.375 arbor. I'm coming back to part this off with a...

    Prototrak SMX rapids default question

I'm 99% sure it can be done. I forget how to access the settings page for this stuff... but there's a way to change a ton of default settings in that control. It should be the same page where you specify the pocket stepover % and whatnot. You may consider reaching out to southwestern industries...

    Mastercam popularity

Small edits and whatnot, I agree. However, for big stuff like multi-axis linking and positional logic, it's a bit wild. About a year or two ago they changed the function calls to different functions. Meaning, the posts we had dialed in no longer functioned as they always had because the kernel...

    Mastercam popularity

Not sure why post processors and overall customer support aren't being talked about. F360 is a MESS when it comes to customer support and post-processor reliability. I used it for a year, and I had numerous jobs that ended up not working out. Every time I tried to get support from AD or my...

Do I actually need CAM for a VF4SS+TRT210?

Yeah, they love releasing those half-baked updates. Nothing like coming in to start your day only to find out that fusion updated and now it barely works correctly. One of the many reasons I stopped using it and never looked back.

Do I actually need CAM for a VF4SS+TRT210?

Honestly, Fusion 360 is a great place to start. I would recommend talking to DSI about it. They're an Autodesk reseller, but they're the original creators of Powermill & Featurecam. Their support is top-notch compared to Autodesk corporate. I'm not a CAD expert, but I use many CAD features for...

    EDM Wire

I had the same issue with the ProcutZ wire on my Fanuc Robocut. I was told that using a coated wire can sometimes cause unintended consequences. The burn zone creates a pocket of extreme heat. When that happens, the coating on the wire can burn off and react negatively, which causes the copper...

    Are milling chucks obsolete?

Good point. There's certainly a bit of forgiveness in the torque values, but there's a line you don't want to cross. I once had an employee crank down on an ER16 so hard that the holder cracked in the collet taper/threaded section. He was trying to prevent a tap from spinning in a standard...

    Are milling chucks obsolete?

It's all based on what machine and cutting tools you have at your disposal. I based those on a 3fl generic aluminum endmill. If you had a 5fl endmill and ran 1200 sfm & .006 ipt, you could easily go well over 300 IPM. Then again... your machine acceleration might not be able to keep up with...

    Are milling chucks obsolete?

Safelock doesn't play games, those things are legit.

    Are milling chucks obsolete?

Only 10% radial @ .005" chip load per tooth @ 1.5XD is a lot of spindle load and cutter engagement, especially on a BT30 spindle. We're talking a minimum IPM of 90ish and a max of around 150ipm if you factor in chip thinning. Maybe I do things more aggressively, but I wouldn't trust an ER collet...
