    The Ultimate Coolant Ring

Not sure if all VF's have the spare M codes capability but we set up a cell of VF-2's a long time ago with custom M code controlled air blast. Actually Productivity Inc did for us, according to what we wanted. I edited our NX posts for the new M code and was very happy with the results. Not sure...

    3d probing on machine

@Milling man Yep. i.e. Renishaw 400 & 600 series > 40 & 60 series. The former series are high accuracy and sensitive, better suited for 3D shapes. The latter series are standard accuracy probes, intended for cuboid and cylinder checks.

    Transferring programs to machines?

I 2nd what donkey hotey said about the boxes. I purchased five of them from Shop Floor Automations when I became fed up with supporting the dwindling amount of machines which didn't have an ethernet port. I didn't want to pay to upgrade the dnc software and really didn't care for long, serial...

    3d probing on machine

@Milling man You mentioned where you were looking but I didn't see your specific application, so are you simply investigating at this point?? I've used standard and 3d probing in NX and 2d in Gibbs, never got around to trying it in mastercam. I don't think mastercam probing is native, it's...

    Mastercam Automation

Not sure if they have any sort of learning functions for milling recognized features similar to NX, but I thought mc has feature recognition for hole making. if you machine a lot of holes, this could be a huge time saver for you.

Mastercam 2024 stuck on "Checking License..."

@Narco When I had mc training a couple years ago I used a student license and, when I needed assistance, the local VAR was super helpful and fielded every question I asked them. Even if you receive a license directly from mastercam, I would still contact a VAR and ask for help. The home office...

Mastercam 2024 stuck on "Checking License..."

@narco You are solidly correct, it should work. And making excuses for badly engineered software is not a solution. Unfortunately file association and opening failures are common in windows. On top of that, there is a lot of software that doesn't comply with standard windows practices, such as...

Looking for a CNC vertical Mill that will fit under 83” door.

@ fltenwheeler Sounds like you're looking at what will fit through the door but I encourage you to not let a doorway stop you if need more machine. At my old company we moved a doorway to accommodate installation of a Niigata SP901. It had a steel header in a block wall and we found numerous...

    Tap Drill Hole notes

You didn't mention if you are working for someone or are self employed. For starters, I recommend reading through ASME Y14.5-2018. In general I would not call out any type of machining process. i.e.- drilling, reaming, milling, edm, etc- Besides being a no-no to drawing standards, it could...

    Haas user available variables.

Hello All, I have seen conflicting info on Haas variables that are available to use in macro programming, even in Haas tech tip videos there is conflicting info. One chart I've seen stated variables 10120-10139 and 10520-10539 should be user available and to stay away from 101XX variables. In a...

    Leblond Makino

FNC 20, 74, 106, 1210? The 6 was decent control for the time, and if my memory serves me correctly, the no-frills 0 control shares a lot with the 6. If the turcite is in decent condition, these old box way machines could take some fairly heavy cuts. Is the head straight gear driven or have...

    New UMC-500, Z is off .005 on 90° tilts

They might refer to it as "Ludicrous Tune".

Does anyone know the variable for tool change Z position?

Does anyone know the variable for the tool change Z position? This is for a UMC but it wouldn't surprise me if it's the same variable for all their mills. I need to write some "universal" tool checks and it would be handy to use a variable for the Z position, rather than write a different check...

    New UMC-500, Z is off .005 on 90° tilts

Perform a test cut at B0 and B90 at 90° rotations then make adjustment the parameters; no magic involved lol. I think Haas has another, higher level tune which uses software but don't quote me on that, it was second hand info.

    New UMC-500, Z is off .005 on 90° tilts

I should rephrase my earlier statement a bit- MZRP is not totally worthless but I do highly recommend supertuning.

    CAD/CAM for electrodes advice

NX is top tier for cam and cad. Depending on your needs you can buy just cam or if you need a mould design solution, NX can do advanced assemblies and drafting as well. If you work with a lot of dumb solids, NX Sychronous Modeling is a gift from the Gods. When I left my old company, we were...

Mastercam 2024 keeps opening after closing

Sucks for users; MC already was bad at responding to issues but lately it sounds even worse. Would that happen to be the guy who used to sell Cam Tool?? He kept trying to push it on our NX shop but would always leave defeated when we'd see through the smoke & mirror show.

    Renishaw OTS chipping tools

Assuming you know when to rotate tools during the probing cycle and when not to, perhaps dig into the macros and slow down the feed into the probe. You could also try to re-ramp and polish the edge break on the top edge of the probe if you feel like going further with it. Echoing usolutions, a...

diy dovetail fixture for 5 axis. worth it?

Nice. On top of an Erowa(copy?) system as well. Personally I prefer System 3R/copies but that's another topic. Looks like most of the in-house designs emulate Raptors, more or less. Certainly without the Raptor price tag lol.

Coming from Mastercam and Fusion 360 to Esprit. What to expect?

I totally hear what you're saying, I feel the same even though I know eventually my company and the ones I consult for will all be in the boat. This is undoubtedly the most impactful change in cad/cam/cae that universally disgusts every user and eng. manager.
