Harrison AA VS330 5C collet closer system or 5C draw bar extension

Thanks for the term! I had found the Dunham tubes and will look into the idea of simply replacing my tube with one of those. Also, I will check with Constance to see if those are really collet extensions. If they are, then they might work. The description refers to "Work Stop" which...

Harrison AA VS330 5C collet closer system or 5C draw bar extension

I just acquired a Harrison AA VS330 lathe (exchange for some labor) and I am replacing my Victor 13" with it. The collet closer (unknown brand) from my Victor looks like it will fit the Harrison once I make a custom lever attachment point. However, the drawbar is too short. I could make a...

How to make a gauge tool?

My apologies for being light on the details! You are correct that a $15K die is beyond the budget, at least at first. I'm definitely familiar with the good-fast-cheap triangle. This started as an need for a tool for determining the size of hex wrenches. Something that can be left by the...

How to make a gauge tool?

I considered that, especially since ideally the holes would have a non-circular shape. But my understanding was that when punching that the ratio of the diameter to the hole depth could not exceed a certain ratio and my design would be at least 3:1 for the smallest hole size.

How to make a gauge tool?

I honestly don't know how precise the slots are in the sheet metal gauges. For my gauge I would want to hold the tolerance at -0.000"/+0.001". The sizes would range from 0.030" to 0.500"

How to make a gauge tool?

I want to have a custom gauge made that is much like those circular sheet metal thickness gauges you find all over the place. Like the one pictured. They are precisely made out of tough materials but can be purchased for as little as $10! I'm not aiming for that low of a price but it's got...

Hardinge HLV-H Chuck Jaws not closing parallel

I knew the jaws needed to be preloaded and I was mentally wrestling with how to do that. Your design is very smart! Doesn't matter if it's ugly, it will still still work well!

Hardinge HLV-H Chuck Jaws not closing parallel

I went over the chuck, this time with a flashlight, and I finally spotted the model and serial numbers. Pretty faint! It is a Model 30AHC. I have both sets of jaws. I have been thinking about getting an Ajust-Tru chuck as it would seem to be easier then the 4-jaw. I may also set up to...

Hardinge HLV-H Chuck Jaws not closing parallel

I lurk around here a lot, soaking up tip and tidbits of know-how as much as I can, but this is my first post. I have a Hardinge HLV-H that I mostly use with collets. I have a 5" Hardinge 3-jaw chuck (Buck?) with the integrated taper attachment. Could not find a part number or a serial number...
