Cincinnati 15x54 traytop half nut lever difficult to engage.

*UPDATE*, in my fastidiousness in cleaning all the years of schmutz off of the halfnut dovetail slides and detent, i neglected to re-lubricate all of the sliding surfaces and, when i re-lubed everything, like magic, buttery smooth engagement and dis-engagement.

Cincinnati 15x54 traytop half nut lever difficult to engage.

The resistance in the handle occurs before the half nut has even begun to close, and well before the threads are even near the lead screw. I did check the alignment with the lathe to see if the threads were "pushing" the lead screw left or right, and they appear to be aligned properly. Its...

Cincinnati 15x54 traytop half nut lever difficult to engage.

I recently removed the apron and made a new bushing for the carriage handwheel. I cleaned the years of chips, oil, and debris off of the apron. Upon reassembly everything functions normally, however, when engaging the half nut handle it has a significant "hitch" when you try to engage it. If...

Cincinnati 15x54 tray top loud in fwd gears, quiet in reverse.

I cant imagine that gears are available, i am worried it is one or more of them.

Cincinnati 15x54 tray top loud in fwd gears, quiet in reverse.

I noticed my new-to-me lathe is loud in fwd, but quiet in reverse, no matter the gear, or if the lead screw is engaged. The fluid level in the gearbox is correct. I assume bearings and such are available?

VFD for Cincinnati lathe with 3HP. Motor data plate pic attached.

Not a hydra shift. The only switch on the lathe anywhere is the coolant pump on/off switch. I just ordered the teco westinghouse drive recommended above Teco Westinghouse (L510-203-H1-U), from wolfautomation, and one of their switch panels.

VFD for Cincinnati lathe with 3HP. Motor data plate pic attached.

I do not think it has anything tying it to the electrical, only the fact that the spindle engagment handle that actuates the soon to be bypassed barrel switch also throws a little lever on the filter. Switching to a VFD and bypassing the barrel switch will result in that little lever never...

Here is a pic of the oil filter and its data tag

VFD for Cincinnati lathe with 3HP. Motor data plate pic attached.

This is such a great forum. I really appreciate the input. My drum switch is buried inside the machine cover, and i have no problem with bypassing it. I was anticipating on building a stand alone control panel to integrate a fwd/rev switch and a stop switch. After these conversations i was...

VFD for Cincinnati lathe with 3HP. Motor data plate pic attached.

I looked into the dynamic braking, looks like a worth while feature that i didnt know i needed. Does it require a speed sensor or any additional hardware? Or is it part of the programing/setup cabability of the unit?

VFD for Cincinnati lathe with 3HP. Motor data plate pic attached.

I like the idea about wiring it thru the drum switch, i was under the impression that the VFD needed to see a 0-20 signal for switching?

VFD for Cincinnati lathe with 3HP. Motor data plate pic attached.

I believe that requires 3 phase input, i only have single phase. I think this is is what i need. I heard you should over size them? https://www.wolfautomation.com/ac-drive-5hp-15-3a-200-240v-1-phase/

VFD for Cincinnati lathe with 3HP. Motor data plate pic attached.

I have been combing the forum for a week or so and trying to get up to speed on VFD'S. I need an in-stock VFD for my 3 h.p. 15x54 Cincinnati tray-top. There are so many choices and vendors it will take me months to make an educated choice. Could someone please give me a direct recomendation...

Drinking from the VFD info firehose

My lathe has no switches on it except for coolant pump on/off, the fwd/neutral/rev is controlled buy the handles on either side of the carriage actuating a rod that rotates a barrel switch (malfunctioning) which is covered by the drive gear cover. Is there a list of components somewhere for...

Drinking from the VFD info firehose

An excellent idea, but the lathe has no switches except for the drum switch, which seems to be malfunctioning, and is buried inside the gear case actuated by a rod off of the handles on either side of the carriage. I was thinking of adding an e-stop, and fwd/rev switch in a small enclosure on...

Drinking from the VFD info firehose

WOW, that is incredible, it almost sounds too good to be true. The legacy wiring in the lathe control panel is beautifully done, it almost seems a shame to remove it.

Drinking from the VFD info firehose

I am begining the VFD knowledge process, having never used one and have a hopefully easy question. 1. In a non-clutch, 2 horsepower mechanical lathe, with only a drum switch and single electric drive motor (3-phase) and a small electric coolant pump with an on/off switch. Can and should i...

    Cincinatti 15x54 traytop inconsistent start

Not desperate, but a tool to me is one that works every time i need it, even though i may only use the lathe once in a while. I certainly have no pressing need for the lathe, but i dont want to spend more weekends without results, as the lathe will be handy for support of my other pursuits...

    Cincinatti 15x54 traytop inconsistent start

It is powered by a 7.5 HORSE RPC. I got a little more info out of the guy i bought it from concerning the hard start. He said he had to be quick and forcefull with the spindle engage handles and some times had to cycle between neutral and fwd. or rev. Out of frustration i tried his rough...
