Thank you all, so 8" means the OD only.

What is 8" mean in a 8" Lathe Chuck?

Hi, my town wood house lathe came with a 3 jaw chuck and I'm planning to buy a 4 jaw. The OD is roughly 8" and I'm looking for a similar sized one. As I was searching online for 4 jaws, I couldn't find the OD mentioned in those sites. I guess the 8" in a 8" chuck means that is the max dia of...

Milling machine - Sealed bearings (both side) vs one side open bearing

Thank you for note. It is steel shields. There is no way to add grease in use, it completely sealed inside with no access and manual says to add grease only when replacing.

Milling machine - Sealed bearings (both side) vs one side open bearing

Hi all, with God's infinite grace I was finally able to get hold of Wells-Index milling machine. I'm doing some TLC and I had to replace the pulley bearings. The design uses 2 one-side open bearing, with open sides facing each other separated by a spacer and greased up. I ordered a bearing...

Any suggestions to remove stuck plunger pin in an apron?

Sorry for the late reply. I tried cleaning as much as possible but it just didn't budge. So I just left it and reassembled the apron, as I had so many other things to fix. And after I started using the lathe few times I saw the pin drop out on it own. So it was all good in the end without having...

Hi, I recently got a Town Woodhouse lathe and been doing some light TLC. Got an issue in the apron. The lead screw lever is held in place by a plunger and a spring. I was able to remove the spring but plunger is stuck deep inside the casting. Things I have tried: - Sprayed copious amount of...

    Town Woodhouse Junior 70 Lathe

Ahh, now that $1K makes sense. Thanks John! But I'm going with it cause I'm not going to afford a Colchester for quite some time. And I can get familiarized with a regular lathe for next few years before I can buy a Colchester

    Town Woodhouse Junior 70 Lathe

Thanks Vanice. I did look into it and yes it was good review. Looking at the cabinet, I believe this is 1955 model as shown in that page and not the 1957. But I think I will get this one as its good price for a hopefully ok condition lathe.

    Town Woodhouse Junior 70 Lathe

Hi, long time viewer first time poster. I have been long wanting to own a decent lathe (I have a 8x16"/1HP mini lathe though) but the price (+ shipping) was prohibitive for me. I recently found a Town Woodhouse Lathe for $1K. The lathe needs TLC and fine tuning but no major issues. Is it worth...
