Haimer Z Offset Measurement for Haas

I'm 100% certain I'm overthinking it. From what I've researched on the matter, I came to the conclusion that I needed to use a height gauge and find my probe height, zero the probe off the table, enter the probe height offset, and that's my "zero". I guess I just got hung up on what points to...

Haimer Z Offset Measurement for Haas

That doesn't help me figure out my probe (tool) offset for setting z axis. From what I understand about using the Haimer, it's treated like a renishaw probe in that you need to know the probe OAL in order to determine your z axis offset when using the Haimer.

Haimer Z Offset Measurement for Haas

Thanks for the tip! But I'm still not sure exactly where I'm supposed to measure my OAL from. Do I need to measure from the spindle nose to the tip, or from the bottom of the tool holder taper to the tip?

Haimer Z Offset Measurement for Haas

Hello All, I have searched high and low for an answer to my question with no luck. I'm trying to find the length value of my Haimer 3d Sensor in a CAT40 tool holder (Haas TM-1). I know that a lot of measurements are taken from the spindle nose, some are taken from the bottom of the taper on...

    Tm-1 lubrication problems

Just wondering what type of grease ya'll are running in your TM machines. I hear anything from very specific (Mobil 1) to "any general lithium grease". Leaves a lot of options.

    GMC 1440 Lathe w/Phase Converter

Finally got some specs about my motor. It's a 6.5HP 220v, 60hz, 15/16.2A (3/4.5k W). So the PTS007 may have worked just fine, but again, doubt was created and I didn't want to take a chance on a $1750 piece of equipment. I would like to stick with a PP, but the unit I require is out of my...

    GMC 1440 Lathe w/Phase Converter

So I received an update from the manufacturer of the lathe: My customer who purchased the GML-1640HD got it to work on an American Phase Converter. He claims he had to upgrade the 20 Amp Fuse (circuit) to 25 Amps. He purchased the model #ADX-20 and it is running on 1800 RPM. Looks like...

    GMC 1440 Lathe w/Phase Converter

Again, my issue isn't with PP, I've read nothing but great things about the equipment. But between being told by the manufacturer not to run a RPC, and with people at PP telling me a PT007 isn't good enough, I'm back to the drawing board. Or at least the research board. I was considering a VFD...

    GMC 1440 Lathe w/Phase Converter

Well again, this is what had me confused. I'm told by the manufacturer that the lathe will start and run just fine, it just doesn't achieve full RPM. Which makes me wonder if it's an issue with on RPC's, a specific brand of RPC's, or just phase converters in general. The subject RPC is a 20hp...

    GMC 1440 Lathe w/Phase Converter

Well... I have read and read to no end, and I'm still in the same place as I started. I'm still stuck on the comments from the lathe manufacturer "RPC won't achieve full RPM"??? Is it irrational to start looking into single phase motors? Possibly 5hp? It's probably cheaper to buy a new motor...

    GMC 1440 Lathe w/Phase Converter

Thanks for the information, very helpful. And to clarify, the lathe manufacturer wasn't concerned with ramp up, they said the lathe might not run at full RPM. Which I found to be odd. I feel like I need to do more homework before spending this kind of money on a paper weight.

    GMC 1440 Lathe w/Phase Converter

I'm not worried about the PP at all, just has me concerned that the lathe manufacturer advised not to run a rotary. My understanding that phase converters work more off total amp rating rather than HP rating, correct? Because now I'm starting to doubt if what I'm buying is adequate. The lathe...

    GMC 1440 Lathe w/Phase Converter

I'll have to dig up specs on the motor, but it's a 4p/8p, 6hp, 20A. So the PP should work as it's rated to 26A. I'm also wondering if they were testing with the AR vs ADX. I've just never heard of an issue like that, but that's not saying much.

    GMC 1440 Lathe w/Phase Converter

Hi All, I just wrapped up purchasing a used GMC GML-1440HD (6hp/3ph), and I purcahsed a 7.5hp Phase Perfect to run it out of my home garage. I've been exchanging emails back and forth with tech support over at GMC Machines, and they are telling me that a "rotary phase converter" does not work...

Sadly, I have posed this question to Renishaw with no response (yet).

    VMC vs CNC Knee Mills

Is there a distinct advantage going with a VFD over RPC (other than cost)? I assume it's a "simpler setup" with the VFD once you get it wired, and they are significantly cheaper. I suppose if I can wire a RPC, I can wire a VFD. How do you size a VFD? Just double the specs like a RPC?

    Renishaw OTS Options

Hello, I am looking for a stand alone OTS for my TM1. It came with a spindle probe, but no OTS (not sure what happened?). There are various models out there, and I'm not quite sure which one is right for me. They vary in specs and prices (anywhere from $1000 to $5000). Only thing I know is that...

    VMC vs CNC Knee Mills

I'm certainly sure this is possible. Problem is, I'm not educated enough to figure the ins and outs of wiring a VFD properly. It seems like options and wiring configurations are endless. And the fwd reverse is gear driven on my machine (not sure if that matters)

    VMC vs CNC Knee Mills

That's my worry. I'm leaning towards an American Rotary 30hp unit to run both my lathe and TM1. I know the TM1 will run single phase, but if I'm doing a phase converter, then why not.
