OT-register domain name - what do i really need?

EPA111 - thank you for taking the time to spell it out - yes i really am that ignorant. I get the gist of things but never took a deep dive, and don't know the lingo (all the acronyms you explained) Again, thank you. M.Moore - i started to feel scammed just trying to start an account with...

OT - floor tile decoupling systems?

Blanke permat was the one i really wanted to compare, get some opinions on, but the options ended up being Laticrete Stratamat, vs Shluter Ditra vs a blue option similar to Ditra except i was less impressed with the voids. I always used Laticrete products in the "old days" mostly because...

OT-register domain name - what do i really need?

I clearly need to read a bit on what all the acronyms mean. However, just as a "what if" - let's say i search some more options, and decide Directnic.com looks good on price. If i select the "Pro plan" for 36 months/$161.10 does that plan (see list on site) have everything i need to just park...

OT-register domain name - what do i really need?

5 years ago i registered a couple domain names with GoDaddy and they are coming up for renewal. At much advanced cost. I have never/"not yet" set up any entity to use them. All i want to do is keep the names reserved in case i do. :) Every registration service that is popular wants to sell a...

OT - floor tile decoupling systems?

almost half a century ago :) (or maybe more accurately) "more than 4 decades ago" i set a lot of tile back when we (me plus employees) still did full renovations mostly in the DC area. fast forward to putting a hall floor in here at our own house for my poor patient wife.... Suddenly now days...

    Hardinge HLV

It is priced about right for the condition, and not knowing how much wear is on the bed. Bed wear can be an issue. OTOH, there are people who would buy that to clean up and flip for 2x the price. E.g., the collet closer, steady rest, and toolpost would probably bring over 1,000 on eBay...

Brown and Sharpe #10 Tool and Cutter grinder

Not sure what year mine is, but it and all the early ones did not have a boot, just a "scraper" ring It had a lot of use and may have been rebuilt once a long time ago - but the column is not really a factor. Of course a boot would seem to be better.

Brown and Sharpe #10 Tool and Cutter grinder

There was a time when it seemed that LeBlond might have had an earlier version of the pedestal base styles, but Cincinnati goes back to 1889, so they probably were first. This is from the 1907 catalog

agree. Probably overkill, and will cost you money in lost power when idling. Unless you need to start motors over 10HP with a load on them. My DoALL D1030 has a 3HP spindle motor & at least that on the hydraulic pump, along with the magnet and the rapid head position motor. It is also 440V...

Cheap vs expensive spin fixture/punch grinder/spin fixture

Well i have always appreciated your posts, too! No papers here, work life was as a carpenter, self taught machinist to make all the cutting tooling and fixtures used in my niche millwork shop. And for other shops and niche industries including a little bit of medical Since 70th winter i'm a...

    Used Taiwan made grinder

Most of that was hypothetical. Point was 1.) if you don't know the condition of the surface of the chuck, using it as a reference to grind "something" for which the primary purpose is a geometric test; the concept is flawed. 2.) there is a lot to do to correctly set up a chuck that you have...

    Used Taiwan made grinder

Buck made another observation: If you plan to grind anything, then you need to be clear about what you intend to test/ inspect: some factors will be dependent on the current surface of the chuck. Unless you have an afternoon (all day if first time :) ) to dress the chuck correctly. IOW...

Got a couple hours to do it right on a long enough piece learning on a new machine? Taking some stable substantial pieces to grind that are already close? I you are a knowledgeable and practiced grinding guy, sure. If not, it will probably take longer and reveal more about your technique than...

Tend to agree, but if you are Amish, you get a religious exemption. So long as it is line shaft or hydro/pneumatic. Used to see it regularly - and barefoot besides.

Mamma's don't let yer babies drive forklifts

What exactly defines "children" in that citation? If they were 16 or 17 as seems to be "minors" in most Federal employment regs, it ends up just being one more way to limit employment opportunities for kids. (FWIW, i don't think under 18 should be required to operate any equipment they are not...
