The ball type is stronger and they don't get as floppy as the cross pin type. There are times where the cross pin style will have enough angle and the ball type will not. So if you use them regularly get both and buy quality.
Welding up the damage surface would be a bad idea. Turning the spindle bearing seat and sleeving would be much better but in any case spinning up one of those struts to machine would take a competent shop. before any repairs are attempted the spindle should be Magafluxed. I was in the German car...
I have had one of the 13x30 8 speed South Bends for almost 9 years and it has never had a problem. From my limited experience in metal working it it much better than the Chinese offerings and better than other Taiwanese machines not as good as the Korean or Japanese. I have changed out the motor...
As cold as a 2 stroke OB runs I doubt it would help and may make it worse as the head will expand more than the SS head bolts. Before trying each bolt smack it a coupe of times with a hammer, shock is good. If you are talented with an impact lightly rattle the bolt before putting the beans to...
I had to bring up the pad for my 40 x 60 shop 14" using 3/4 and smaller base. Every 6" I walked it in with my series 2 JD with the bucket full and then a vibratory plate compactor. The weight on the front tires did almost all of the compaction.
I would think that close to the throttle plate would give the best response and that's where it was generally placed in speed density injection systems.
IF this is for a #2 surface grinder I have one for sale that is in working condition except that the automatic traverse parts are missing. Why can't you use coolant with your current setup?
Lion lathes list several lathes with 4in+ spindle bore in various lengths. They are made in Bulgaria and seem to have a good reputation. There is a US distributor
I agree that the workmanship is very poor and should not be used even if you can cut the bearing locating tab. What does the other half of the crankcase look like and has it been repaired? Do you have the means to measure the diameter of the bore and wether it is in line with the rest of the...
The ratchets that I have from Stahlwillie and Facom are inch sizes and when I was working I do not remember there being a Metric drive option. That may of changed in the last 20 years though.
For my mill the variable shiv drive works very well, (Reeves drive?) For the lathe adding a VFD for the 8 speed gear head had even more advantages. Being able to program the the RPM ramp up rate and dynamic braking and turning up the RPM while parting off is really nice.
There are a number of cars out with CVT transmissions, my wife's Rav4 Hybrid has one. Granted the belt is actually a chain but the same principal I think.
