Someone selling a drill that overheats and blow smoke.
Some one on ebay is selling a Makita drill that they say works okay but it overheats and starts blowing smoke. They are asking $50 for it. Seems unlikely to me. I suppose the variable speed would vary the smoke output. I would take a look if it was free, maybe for a friend or neighbor. Bill D- Bill D

Observation on cheap general service motors
I have noticed that NEMA size motors do not include shaft diameter in the specs. Just bolt hole spacing and height of shaft above the base. For motors 5 - 7.5 horsepower I see shaft sizes from 5/8 to 1+3/8 diameter. I assume the bigger shaft motors have bigger bearings and are overall more... -

oilite sleeve vs locktite
Does locktite or others make a glue to hold a oilite sleeve bearing in a bore. Similar to what can be used in a wallowed out bore for a ball bearing. Or is the material to greasy to lock in place with adhesives. Bill D -

Lifespan of China made motors in the shop
My Google fu is bad. All I find is how short a life china made cars have before they are worn out. I assume China made motors do not last long if used hard and long, hot. Maybe I am wrong and new improved insulation and epoxy coil dips mean they are better then old school USA made motors... -

Garden faucet stem taper

Off Topic: removing corroded batteries from a maglite flashlite
I bought a used flashlight from ebay. It works but the batteries are corroded and one is stuck. Seller refunded me the money and does not want it back. One D-cell battery came out a bit corroded. The other one is stuck and visibly corroded. Any good ideas on removal? I was think a wood...
