This mill has all the original electronics from the factory including the Yaskawa spindle drive. I had to send that out for repair when I brought the mill home earlier this year. I’ve spent the past few months since learning to program the control and getting the machine in shape. I have a...
It has a two step pulley in the top and the means to swap the belt around. I have the belt on the top position which would operate at high range since its the larger pulley. However I can enter a spindle speed of 100 rpm and the spindle is turning pretty darn close to that. I guess I should...
When setting a spindle speed above 1500 rpm, I get an alarm that says to shift to High range. Conversely, if the last speed was set above 1500 and the new speed is below that, I get an alarm asking to shift to Low range. As far as I can tell, there is now range lever or button. What am I missing...
Nice, I'm glad you feel the need to attack me personally. You've been reported for the very thing you accuse me of -- Not following the rules. You see, you can't come on here and call people insulting names and feel vinified by it. But if it makes you feel warm and fuzzy, I'm glad I was here for...
I've read the rules and all the FAQ's. Please clearly delineate which rule was not followed so that I may not make the same mistake in the future.
Thank you,
Dan
Successfully replaced the belts on the J-Line Shaper. It requires some disassembly of the variable speed drive components. Should somebody in the future require assistance with this task, feel free to hit me up.
Cheers
Dan
Not everyone here is concerned with how commercial shops operate. My shaper and machine tools reside in my own home shop. Believe or not, not everyone is out there trying to make a buck from this trade. My career took me away from this trade years ago but my love of metal working has stayed with...
Hi all,
I’m all set to begin refurbishing an 8” shaper and have a question or two for the experts here. This shaper is a J-Line made by Brodhead-Garrett. It’s essentially a Logon 8” shaper with a few minor improvements such as the externally mounted grease zerk for lubricating the vari drive. It...
I made my own using a digital scale. Bryster Meterology has the weight sets if you’re looking to purchase. A cheap way to get you going is to buy 1.5” pvc pipe with end caps and an eyelet screw. Only needs to be roughly 4 or 5” long. Fill the pipe with scrap lead, cap it off and drill a hole in...
Just received the information I needed from a fine gentlemen at Bryster Meterology. For the Wilson Rockwell Superficial model 3JS weights, the following are correct.
#1 15 Kgf weight = 420 g including hanger
#2 15 Kgf weight = 600 g
#3 15 Kgf weight = 600 g
Total = 45 Kgf
Wear and other...
Yes, aren’t they labeled something like 60 kg, 50 kg, 40 kg? The JS lists them as 15Kg each with an accumulative total of 45 kg. I think I may have confused you by how I labeled them in my earlier post. Each weight would be labeled 15 kg on the JS.
Its because those numbers represent the accumulative total force added. Weights 2 and 3 are the same but each add another 15 kgf of load to the unit. Same with the JR, just larger weight / force.

Denis, this is great if I had a standard tester. My unit is the “Superficial” version which uses 3, 15Kg weights for a total of 45 kg. I’m fairly certain, like the JR models, the first weight is the mystery weight due to factors inside the unit that contribute to the weight of the first 15Kg...
Dave — not trying to hijack this post but I’m needing info on the model 3JS weights. I just acquired this tester with missing weights. I know the superficial has a hanger pan that counts for 15kgf followed by two addition weights that bring the total to 45 kgf. Do you happen to know how many...
WOW, you had the same idea that I have! I found a similar picture of a grinder on ebay that has part of the shrouds in tact; nothing along the back side! I sent an email to the listing owner to see if he would take some pics or sale me the coolant guard parts -- nothing back. I've since began...
I noticed a little wear on the table above the rollers that ride horizontally in the middle area. I cleaned it up real good and looked for any kind of edge. Could not detect one with my finger nail. Did not measure it despite having a surface plate. Figured it is what it is and I’m not at a...
