I'm working on a custom built mill-turn machine that's equipped with a Fanuc 30i control. The axis of the milling head is along the X-axis of the lathe, so mill programming is in the G19 plane. I cannot get the control to respond to cutter comp. Regardless of what values I enter for tool...
I'm moving my shop and need some wood shipping crates. Size isn't too important, but I don't want anything bigger than 48" x 48". Does anyone in New Jersey have any to sell me?
I'm turning a part that has a spherical surface between two grooves. The grooves are 0.050" wide and I'm using a 0.043" wide round-nosed tool to cut the spherical surface. I set the tool length by toughing off and dialing in 0.0215" (its nose radius). Here's my code:
G01 G42 X2.1 Z-0.139...
Anybody got any secrets about how to do this? Holy crap - I've been at this all day and can't get the new ones in! The Haas video makes it look so easy.
My machine's consumption of lube oil seems normal and I add to the reservoir at reasonable intervals. Instead of the spent oil being collected by the oil/coolant separator, however, it's all ending up right in the coolant. I haven't seen a drop go into the separator's catch tank in months. How...
I'm looking for an online GT&D course and there's a ton of them out there. Can someone recommend a good one (or at least tell me which ones to stay away from)?
I want to move my shop to Rochester, NY to be closer to family. I need about 2,000 square feet. Does anyone know of anything that's available? Realtors don't seem too interested in small spaces like this. Thanks!
My Haas Super Mini Mill has the Programmable Coolant option. The problem is that in many cases the coolant ricochets of the part and carries chips up into the umbrella tool changer. Some of these chips stick to the tapers of the toolholders and prevent a proper fit into the spindle. I end up...
It's time to bite the bullet and clean the concrete floor in the shop. What's your favorite product that's effective for getting rid of oil stains but won't cause corrosion on the machinery?
I have to turn a round bar whose end is parabolic. There is a mathematical formula that defines the X values in terms of the Z values. How can I program this in G code?
The tool lengths in my Haas Super Mini Mill are not repeatable. Here's what I mean. Let's say a load a tool into pocket #1 and use the table probe to set it's length. I switch to another tool. If I then come back to tool #1 and probe it, the length will be anywhere from a few tenths to 0.008"...
I'm trying to bring a DoAll DBW-15 Welder back to life. It's serial #290-745115 and is intended for 220V, single phase operation. There are four wires from the transformer tagged H1, H2, H3, and H4. Can anybody tell me what these get connected to?
I'm using the G76 canned cycle with a left-hand boring tool that needs to spin counter-clockwise. At the beginning of the program segment I command S500 M04 and the spindle spins counter-clockwise, as you would expect. Two lines later when the control hits the G76 command, however, the spindle...
My CNC lathe with a Fanuc 0TC control communicates with a PC using EZ-DNC Express. The PC died so I had to reinstall EZ-DNC into its replacement. There are two pages of settings to be configured - one for the RS-232 settings and another for the DNC settings. I must have some of these settings...
I've got a bunch of parts to cut that have internal 3/4" NPT threads. There seems to be a fair amount of info around for external NPT threads, but I can't seem to find anything helpful for internal threads. I need to know the bore diameter at the face of the part and the thread's major...
My 2008 Super Mini Mill has developed a problem with the programmable coolant unit. The spigot will not go to its commanded position and then the machine alarms out. If you press the spigot up or spigot down buttons, after several seconds the spigot will slowly move slightly downwards (never...
I did something incredibly stupid and crashed the Duplomatic turret on my lathe into the chuck jaws. Boy, do I feel like a jackass. It was a rapid move right in and I didn't come close to smashing the e-stop in time. Ouch!!! I think I've damaged something in the Duplomatic. It seems to...
I have a project that calls for an 82-deg. countersink to a diameter of 0.516" on a 0.438" hole. The problem is that there is a another feature on the part the partially obscures the hole from the front. The solution seems to be reaching through the hole from the back side and back chamfering...
I'm trying to cut a 1.562-12 thread using the G76 threading cycle and am having some problems. My lathe has a Fanuc 0TC control and uses the two-line format for G76. Here's my code for the thread:
N850 G76 P020060 Q0005 R0.0002
N860 G76 X1.4633 Z-0.56 P0496 Q0070 F0.0833
There seems to be...
