What type tape for sanding belts

let's prolong this post to eternity..... ok , so i found this empty box of belts that i bought about two years ago at a yard sale. "shop smith" , from 1970's . 6x48 cloth backed alox, but not coated like modern stuff. the detail i now remember is that most old belts were directional, and...

Aluminum sticking to table saw balde?

your cutting speed for a 10" 1700rpm saw would be around 1600-1800 sfm? that would be ok w/ coolant . if you could lower your dry blade speed to maybe 1000, with a vfd ? it might also create chatter and make a new problem. nothing is ever easy .

    Lathe lubrication not mentioned

"Seeing as there is little information, I can tell you that the engine lathes I've been on have had Mobile Vactra 10 or equivalent in their gear boxes and aprons." i've never heard of mobil vactra #10 ....?... i know of #1- #4, but 10? #4 is like molasses , so 10 must be like...

Enco 111-1445 Lathe in Powell, TN. $7900

"An Enco is likely a low end rebranded Chinese machine, brand new similar quality and sized lathes go for around $6k with some tooling. " i disagree . a new chinese Acra would be 10x the machine . Enco machinery was the worst of the worst . they were sort of Jet lookalikes at the time , but...

    Windpowered 16mm Camera Help

"At slow speeds the shutter will pass slowly over each frame, and the film will be washed out. At high speeds the shutter will rotate quickly, and the film will be underexposed. I don't think this camera will be able to maintain a consistent exposure with a variable speed external drive." i...

    Verniers for sale

one could also nitpick about calling a caliper ...."calipers" or "them" in these twisted times, you'd better use the proper pronouns to describe measuring instruments...the risk of incarceration (esp. in california, nyc, the uk...) or at the very least a misgendering /discrimination lawsuit...

    Super glue not drying

There's no trick and I'm sure you understand you have to get the proportions right they can go either way. But for a 1980s game changer this was fantastic. Super glue had just become a big deal in the late '970s but when you could add filler to make it like an epoxy and freeze up solid it was...

    Super glue not drying

i disagree, c-a is not a-e . pour some on your fingers and tell me how a-e it is . on your skin, it activates by moisture. none i know made from loc-tite or super glue are different . pour an 1/2 ounce of c-a onto 1/4 cup of baking soda ... i predict it will be a stone in less than 2...

Drilling hole in hard steel: Speeds? Feed? Lube?

if you are drilling a 1/4 hole in "hard" steel , say 45rc ? with a "drillpress" i think you'd be better off not wasting a fragile, expensive drill . those work great in a milling machine, but not good in a drillpress. a drill chuck is seldom capable of better than .003 TIR, and a carbide...

you can measure with whatever you please...hands...yards .furlongs...bodkins .. tip of your dick... this thread was about counterfeit calipers ...that don't cost significantly more than a real one . when you factor in that a real MTI digimatic can last 20-30 years, the flea market junk costs...

Aliexpress has Mitutoyo Digital calipers for $34.82

I don't know what happened but this used to be a website for professional Machinists. Posts about fake calipers and harbor freight would have been closed before it got started. Someone with s*** fake flea market junk tools would never have a chance as a real machinist so I don't know where...
