    Need a machinist in Houston

A friend needs to set up an old glass engraving lathe and needs a jack shaft made for the metric counter pulley. I am guessing the pulley bore is 14mm and probably ought to turn ends down to 1/2" to fit standard pillow blocks. Anyone interested in helping her set up the lathe with a jack...

Thread sizes on quality fountain pens?

For fun and a break from the usual products that I manufacture, I am in the process of recreating a traditional Japanese wood turning lathe. These are very interesting machines with various options. One of the options is a pumping action to assist in hand chasing threads. Part of this option...

Is this the world's smallest hobbing machine?

I picked this little curiosity up this afternoon. It is an old gear hob for watch or clock wheels. It is in amazingly good condition and missing only a screw, one nut, and one spring. It is sitting atop a small McDonald's paper cup to illustrate size. I'll need to machine up a few hobs to...

    For rivett608 to see

I recently made what I think is the world's smallest working set of brass cups for the cups and balls magic trick. The coin is a dime. They were designed to use real pearls as the balls. The red balls show up better in a picture against the white background. Enjoy. Jim

    Spud chuck

I just acquired a copy of assorted notes left behind by an old time machinist in which he described how he made the items he offered to the public. In reading over his cryptic notes I keep coming across the term "spud chuck". I'm certain that it was not for holding potatoes. It would be some...
