Hard grippers to use in conjunction with Pitbull clamps?

I have built hundreds of fixtures using Pit-Bulls backed up by Talon grips. They are the only way to fly IMHO. Just an fyi, Jergens sells mitee-bite stuff in their catalog, it's just their own part number assigned to the items. I believe you said your stock is 3" tall? I've held blocks of...

    Fixturing ideas

Thanks for your input! I think I'm following what you're describing, or at least, the general idea. I do know that sawing the excess material is 100% a No-Go, for us at least. It also sucks that we cannot set-up and run the entire quantity, so they'll be set-up and tear-down numerous times...

    Fixturing ideas

Thanks again for all the ideas. I have to convince mgmt to allocate more time for the one Horiz to get these roughed. 100% agree with the roughing the 1st op, not too many different ways to tackle that. Yes, the bores are a CF. It's def important to knock off all the excess on the ear side...

    Fixturing ideas

Thanks for your thoughts Marcus, Qty's unfortunately, will be run in batches of some number (not enough capacity and time to do 125 parts in a row). All parts are built from solid stock, no welding involved, and the Qty is too low for forgings. Some of the similar parts are only 4.5" tall, so...

    Fixturing ideas

Hey guys! I have a family of clevises, or hinge-type parts that I'm designing fixturing for. This is a semi-close representation of what will be machined, For size reference, this part is around 6.5" tall and 8" square base. Some parts are ss and some are structural steel. Some may only have...

High feed cutters and vertical walls

I always drafted my walls when using a feedmill. I would usually shoot for 2 - 5 degrees depending on how deep you're going. Since a feedmill is only for roughing, come back in with a solid cutting tool to straighten the wall up.

    Mastercam popularity

Hope they're doing better than the Blue Origin down here in Huntsville. From speaking with people in that shop, all they do is throw money at problems and expect success lol

    Best Hydraulic Chucks

Schunk. Hard to beat em! We had a few Mari ones as well, and no real complaints with them either.

    Mastercam popularity

You would be very surprised... I'm at a top tier, and they're using SmurfCAM for their cam software

    New (to me) VMC time.

What are you wanting to machine? How big are the parts? +/-.01" or +/- .0005" Are you tapping holes? Do you have a good foundation? Do you know anything about programming? Are you gonna get a CAM system? How are you going to make money?

    Tapping versus Thread Milling

I like the ones you can go from top to bottom personally. The only problem I have with the bottom-up method is the engagement all at once if your threadmill has multiple teeth. It can be chatter city for some set-ups.

    Spherical Pocket How to?

Yes, You can do "constant Z" passes. Each step-down will have a slightly different X or Y value. There's some math involved without a CAD/CAM system, but def doable.

How to deburr "steep" 3D contour, 3-axis mill, MasterCAM 2022?

That's Gravy, just chain the the 3D edge around the top of the hole using Contour. Select a 90deg chamfer tool, 3D chamfer in the drop down menu, and apply all your parameters. If that doesn't work for you, Copy the solid to another level, add a Chamfer to it and FlowLine the chamfer with a...

    Burnishing Counterbore face

What is the reasoning behind burnishing a counterbore? Are you talking about the walls, or the lower face?

anyone with experience with RobbJack FMHV end mills$$ on large HP aluminum only mills?

Is that what Makino is recommending? Do you currently use a tool salesman/brand for your existing needs? I don't think of Robb Jack when I think about 1" endmills pulling a 60hp cut lol. If you have the money for a big boy machine like that, you should have suppliers lining up to tool that...

    new Haas HPC causes foaming?

Trim makes a low foaming emulsion I Think e906. It works great, I had foaming in a Mori I used to run, that took care of it.

    Slitting saws for cutoff

I use a 4" coarse saw in a 40 taper VMC all the time. I like 10 tooth carbide tipped saws you can get from MSC. I have a nice Command Tooling arbor that incorporates the keyway.

    HAAS H&T code agreement

Hey man! glad to hear we're not the only ones this has happened to. My poor protégé felt pretty bad about the whole situation.... Anyways, it hammered on the moving jaw. A scratch and dent sale on some of your parts sounds awesome. Luckily we have a company like you in America that will...

Cutting Internal threads on Lathe, Production style in Titanium

MasterCam can easily do this without problem, not sure what issues you're having? Y not get the thread milling code off the threadmill website? Most good companies will provide this. Id be talking to my reseller if I couldn't threadmill a damn part in a Y-axis lathe....

    HAAS H&T code agreement

Just a public announcement addressing the setting on Haas mills > h&t code agreement. This is supposed to alarm out if your tool # and your G43 h# do Not match. We learned yesterday that they ignore this setting if the "H" number is 0. Cost a facemill and a portion of a brand new Orange Vise...
