Half the batteries for half capacity.......or less?

Electric pallet lift, 2k capacity. Powered by 4 12V deep cycle marine batteries, 500cca, 80min reserve. Connected for 24v. They are 7yrs old and had zero maintenance. Took almost a gallon of water to top them up. Dead cells. So if the 4 batteries give 6-8? hours of daily service between charges...

    Fixing a $100 problem with a $40,000 solution

Just at an auction yesterday. Small steel fabricator. 2 forklifts on site, old Yale with Slant 6. And 2022 Clark with 90-ish hours. Story goes, the Ye'old Yale developed ignition troubles. Hard starting, intermittent stalling and rough running. Fella I spoke with said the one owner said it ran...

    60hp motor, 30hp vfd

So if I run a 60hp motor with a 30hp VFD can I expect to be able to pull '30' hp out of said motor? Or are there losses in the windings/ rotor that will reduce the output?

    USB small inspection cam?

Can anybody recommend a 'better' quality USB corded inspection camera? I got one some years ago, think it was $12 on Ebay, reviews rave. It's crap, focus range is like 1-1.5", fuzzy. Then I got a 'better' one, $22, worse than the first one. These are like .340 diameter. Hopefully, 7-8 years...

    Degreaser cleans coolantcrete well

Tried the HF degreaser concentrate on the new-to-me Hydmech bandsaw. They were cutting a lot of aluminum, and must have mixed the coolant very rich. Now theres aluminum infused coolantcrete stuck all over and in the tank. Took a chance and tried the degreaser and it really works. Seems like it...

    Circling around a used Hyd-mech

Hyd-mech H14 of 2000-ish vintage. Are they a decent saw? Any cautionary stories or yellow flags to be aware of? Yes it has a Mitsubishi PLC onboard, and I'm going to call the company and ask about support. Seems fairly clean and not beat up. At least I didn't ask 'where do I get blades' or...

OT: Computer fan technology......the lost art. Plus workstation computers.

New HP laptop 3 years back, CPU fan gets noisy and vibrates annoyingly after 6 months. Replaced it, all good for 3? months, then same problem. Another recent new micro PC, same thing after maybe 50? hours run time. Not sure what kind of bushings/bearings are in these small fans, but the...

This one sets a couple records....Hardinge Lathe

Casually saw this listed as local on Marketplace, chuckled at the price ($500). It would pop up from time to time in the grid. Curious it was listed as local. Then it drifted by once again, with a new price. Wait.......what? That's a bit of a perk-up on a dreary cold-grey November weekend. I...

Concrete floor offset...what product for a 'ramp'?

The box stores list 60 products for 'concrete floor patch and crack repair'. Which one might be the 'best bet' to create a ramp between a 1-2" floor height offset to allow caster equipped equipment to transition between levels? I suspect the products range from 'fairly capable and tough' to...

Owner issues.....anybody else get 'stuck' ? (Not A/R issues)

Probably a 1 man shop problem. Projects and machine fix-ups and improvements delegated to 'spare time' or after hours. Things pile up, not sure what to do next. End up 'stuck' with non clear thoughts of how to proceed or what to do next. It all grinds to a hault, including the paying work part...

    DC Morrison (Keyseater) company gone?

Their address was in Cleveland, then Kentucky. Websites listed are down. Seem to be defunct at this point? OK, searched and found another recent thread https://www.practicalmachinist.com/forum/threads/dc-morrisson-successor.417741/#post-4127362

Straight sided Vibe deburr machine, parts sticking to sides.

My Royson 1.5 cu ft machine is great. Except the urethane liner sides are flat and smooth. Any part with even a little flat section will stick to the sides via suction, and just ride there and not get deburred. Could I glue a ribbed sheet of urethane to the sides that are there? Special glue...

Cylindrical Grinding using a steady rest instead of a tail stock?

Is it possible to use a steady rest to hold the 'right' side of a part that won't fit between centers? I can't seem to find any evidence of anyone doing such. Said a different way: On a grinder with 26" of travel, could half of a 31" long shaft (1.125 dia) be held in a steady rest instead of...

Older HLV-H Headstock name plate availability?

I can't find a part number for this older (1960's) HLV-H headstock tag, does anyone possibly have it, or know of a source that's reproducing them if Hardinge doesn't still offer them?
