I went to a local auction, not being able to stand the idea of this one being scrapped. I expected it to go for almost nothing, my feverish mind plotting how to handle moving it. I hoped there would be some interest, as I sure don't need it and was not looking forward to the move. It...
I'm not having much success finding a supplier for heavy coil springs, every search ends up being just hardware store type springs. I need some HEAVY coil springs, wound with like 3/8 or 1/2 inch coils. Any suggestions?
I am wanting to build a weather resistant structure, out of aluminum, but what I read, stainless fasteners aren't compatible with aluminum....................how much of a problem is this in the real world? Is there a way to make it work?
This auction snuck up on me, only a little over a day left. No connection to any of it, just throwing it out there.

I've got a chance for this thing real cheap..........looks like it weighs about 13k pounds, that is a bit much for my trailers. Can I get about a ton off that? Maybe take the ballast off the back end and get it closer to 10k?
Having trouble getting a .25 mfd dc capacitor to replicate a Cincinnati schematic...................it goes across the dc leads coming off the rectifier bridge, to convert 120 ac into dc.
Any suggestions
I'm thinking seriously about turning out some sleeves for a model NLA..............been searching some places, looks like centrifugal cast pipe is the way to go? Any other input?
Is there any reason why I couldn't use a 1000v bridge rectifier for 120v useage? I have one on hand. Amp rating is plenty high for the application too.
I've got a clutch/brake panel that I'm trying to make sense of, not sure why the three terminal capacitor. There used to be a rheostat that only worked for the electric brake, but has been gone for some time.
It looks like they are taking 120v and using the bridge rectifier to make DC, and...
I'm trying to sort out issues with a (new to me) G&E shaper, it has had "field repairs" on the control circuit in the past, the wiring diagram is faded to white.............so i'm on my own. Upon initial startup, when I flipped the switch on the clutch, it stalled out, figured the brake was...
A friend was cleaning out his dad's garage, after he passed, ran across some things that I might have some interest in. He tried to explain what he had run across, one was this tap and die set. I finally got a chance to look it over. Obviously some vintage stuff here, I told him that I...
Went to an auction a little over an hour away today. Didn't stay, don't know WHEN they would have finally got to the machines, plus, I'm just not able to do anything with them now. The auctioneers photos were crap as usual, mine are better.
Just hooked up my new American Rotary 10hp. and it won't start the slave motor, Slave motor unhooked, so it won't burn up, the voltages are:
T-1 to T-2 245 volts
T-2 to T-3 98 volts
T-2 to T-3 146 volts
L1 to L2 245 volts.
I started and ran 10 hp slave motor on my home made 5 hp rotary...
I'm trying to repair some damage on a Norton Gould and Eberhardt 16 inch shaper. There is a wiring diagram in the panel, but it is unreadable.
Tag gives wiring diagram as: N8046C
MF'G CH'K: 30161
A quick Google search of the wiring diagram number didn't reveal anything.
Apparently at one...
I got a call about a couple of used Ronk converters. I haven't seen them yet, but were running when taken out. They are model 80A........looked up the Ronk site, but doesn't look like they still make that particular model. From the description I got of them, they are pretty heavy, like 100...
I've got a 15 inch shaper that needs to have some wear taken out of it. The ram has .005 taper from front to back end, both sides. Haven't lifted the ram off yet, but will be milling off the taper. Should add that the ram has box ways instead of dovetail.
Anyway, to the question, should I...
My on again off again project over the past few years is finally under power tonight. Finally today, I decided, it is so close, to stay after it and make it happen.
I love it when a plan comes together. All the soaking and freeing up stuck parts. It runs so incredibly quiet, can't wait for...
I had a broken cast piece from a wood bandsaw given to me to repair.................Some ham handed loader operator broke it in the process of moving it. The piece allows the table to tilt, so has crescent shaped on either end and a small machined surface to mount it. To line it up, I bolted...
