Does This Look Like DOM to You??

It was sold as DOM. I received it yesterday. Can't get ahold of anybody, and I hate to start cutting/machining it, not knowing what it is. It has to be welded.........which means it's supposed to be mild steel(1020/1026). Had I bought it in person, I would have turned it down.

    Chasing Thousands

This is for fun, and not meant to start a cat fight. Although(grin), I've been sorta peeved by the guys that think welders have knuckles that drag the ground LOL. So..............we're startin' with this. I've seen worse, I've seen better. The previous owner did the best he could. This is...

    Grease Clearance

This is the front axle pivot pin for a 2wd tractor. Pin diameter is 1.500 As it sits now, the bore ID is 1.504 The original assembly was a pin inside 2 bronze bushings, which were pressed into a pin boss. I have absolutely no idea what the original fit was. The bushings were gone, and the pin...

    Mounting Lathe on Wood Floor.

Dealing with less than solid substrate, and less than acceptable machine. (Get used to it, it's the wave of the future, sad to say) The MAGA boys got ya to fighting amongst yerselves, while they steal the country. Problem is to make this suitable for a solid base. Some crap welds to deal...

Trailer Hooked and Ready To Roll

Been looking out the window this morning, and either gonna unhook the flatbed, and move some hay with the hay trailer, or leave the flatbed hooked. A brand spankin' new lathe is about a few hours away...……… Being kind of reversed (I might have been a breach presentation at birth, dunno), I...

The Question That's Gonna Get Me Kicked Off The Forum........Turcite B

I'm in the middle of rebuilding this lathe. Has to remain nameless. American made, but ain't one of the big boys. I have this bad habit. I generally go from start to finish. I don't look at the pitfalls. I just keep on truckin'. All of the ancillary parts are complete as far as the saddle...

    Loctite 209

Had a spindle chromed, and ground. They messed it up. No point into getting into the story, bottom line.....I'm stuck with a shaft that's about 2 tenths undersize at one journal. This journal holds a tapered roller bearing that has to move in order to set preload. But it's not supposed to...

Proper Grinder for Shaped Cutter Grinding??

Hey? I'm a small farmer trying to stay afloat. I rebuild my machinery to keep from buying new stuff, which I can't afford. I'm buying used HSS sprocket cutters, and involute cutters, when I can get them. Some are OK, then again, some aren't. I need to be able to sharpen them. There's a guy...

    Atlas/Clausing 4805

Well, here it is. Laughter is allowed:p Might be the best $400 I ever spent, or the worst.:) Bought this baby to use it, and use it hard. I need to fabricate parts for my farm equipment that's obsolete, but paid for, thank ya very much:) No gouges on the ways. Mostly light surface rust...

    Atlas 4805

Hey? Is there a source for any printed material on the Atlas model 4805 lathe? I just bought the thing, and I hope I didn't make a mistake. Pd $400. Everything looks ok. Only visible wear is on the bottom bearing surface of the tailstock. Can that be built up with high nickel rod, then...
