Hi,
What kind of mill table clamps am I looking for?
There is .750 clearance between the arbor and table top.
I searched “low profile mill table clamps”, not sure if I should be searching for a proper name / nomenclature.
All I have are the traditional big clamps - stepped ramp type.
Or is...
I need to cut 24” bars of copper into 1” strips. (making buss bar)
Bars are .250 thick.
I recall Copper machines kind of “gummy”.
Using a B-port, right angle attachment/arbor.
Any guidance on slitting saw specs?
Would HSS 1/16” 30 teeth be a reasonable option?
Thanks,
Frank
Our 1 hp submersible well pump runs @ 240VAC, about 8-9 amps.
Starting load is some unknown multiple of the 8A run.
When the utility fails, we run on the 21kw Perkins Diesel genset, starts the well pump fine.
(However, the new heat pump scroll compressor really zapped the genset for the...
Hi,
Have some .750 round bar, need to make .250 and .3125 holes through it. Have a B-port 1J.
Tried plunge mill w/ solid carbide, 4-flute TiN coated center cutting. Dry.
Failed to keep the pressure on, it rubbed and now the bottom of the hole is too hard to cut, shattered the cutter. And the...
My Servo 140 no longer works.
Will turn on, no motor drive function.
Searched site, but Servo repair threads are old.
Looking for suggestions: a current vendor that repairs these.
Thanks,
Frank
Hi,
The copper blocks need to have one side finished so as to effect as much surface contact as possible with the aluminum heat sink.
I don’t know the method used to produce the glass-like smooth, flat surface on the aluminum heat sink.
Pretty sure I don’t have any machines that would do that on...
Hi,
Googled until cross-eyed, can only find one aircraft supply place selling Bristol drive set screws.
Lots and lots of places selling Bristol wrenches, not the Bristol-drive fasteners.
Any other sources for Bristol set screws that anyone can suggest?
Thanks,
Frank
I'm trying to make some old-style automotive battery post clamps.
The kind that have a taper, wider at the bottom.
Larger post for the Positive terminal.
Google tells me it is an "SAE taper".
Here is the SAE specification:
I can't seem to locate anything called a 1-1/3 taper. What else...
Hi,
I need to replace some wallowed-out Bristol socket set screws. Looks like Allen, but not a hex drive.
I can barely see these, must wear magnify goggles.
None of my TPI gauges are even close to this pitch.
How the heck do you measure TPI on something this small?
I need to know the pitch...
Hi,
My trusty 1962 Bridgeport "J" head is very noisy in low gear.
When I push up on the spindle pulley, the noise goes away.
(Surgeon says the thumb can probably be re-attached.)
I found some posts here about noisy "J" head, which helped.
A spacer installed in the right place might stop...
Hi,
I am adding a horizontal milling attachment to my Bridgeport "J" so I can learn how to cut gear teeth and use a dividing head.
(Just a hobby machinist here)
First project is re-cutting some replacement teeth on a lathe gear.
I have a Bridgeport right angle head and dovetail bushing mount...
Hi,
I need some advice - the Logan 850-2 "Bull gear" is becoming toothless.
Not sure why, the belt slips before much torque is generated by whatever I happen to be turning.
No accidents, crashes.
Possibly metal fatigue after all this time?
Or is there some known issue with these that is a...
Hi,
Turn on the TIG machine, turned on the water, had a sprinkler in the shop!
350 amp water cooled torch, RADNOR 18V-25-R water exhaust hose split!
Guess I can't complain too much that the hot water exhaust hose has just disintegrated, It has been in service since 2009.
Rather than buy...
Hi,
I'm not clear about the differences between the Ground and Neutral in this application.
Would like to do this safely!
The input filter is for 120 or 240vac, single phase.
The gray plastic terminals are for L1 and L2. (240) or possibly L1 and Neutral (120).
The metal case is marked...
Hi,
As I near retirement (3yrs to go I'll be 67 and even more grumpy and argumentative...),
I dream about having a better lathe in my workshop.
The Logan 850 is worn out and with the flat belt, can't take the cuts I would like.
No gearbox, so I can't cut threads.
The bore is too small for...
Hi,
I sure could use some advice on how to connect the 24VDC coil on this relay.
Not sure if the 24VDC +,- goes on C1, C3, or the terminal on the other side?
Terminals ohm out at 2 ohms and 4.9.
So if Ohm's opinion is right, it needs either 12A or 4.8A.
Seems like too much current?
Not...
Hi,
Inherited an anvil from my father-in-law, lived near Buffalo, NY.
He had this in his workshop for at least 50 years.
Lots of sentimental value to me, as the old gentleman and I enjoyed working on projects together.
I did some research w/ Google, which helped me find & obtain some books -...
Hi,
I thought I had EVERY wrench/socket known, but this one has me beat!
I don't know what tool type to search for to fit these bolts.
What the heck kind of fastner is this?
A 10mm 12 point fits it, but can't take much torque w/o slipping.
These hold the axle flange to the differential stub...
Hi,
I need some advice on selecting a new water cooled gas lens TIG torch for a project I am starting.
Welder is a 1974 Lincoln TIG 300/300 "highboy".
Welding .063 and .125 sheet Aluminum boxes, mostly fillet welds.
All I have now is a 40 year old Linde HW 20 torch 200A (not a gas lens)
And...
Hi,
I have a 1962 "J", and need some advice as to how to proceed with a repair.
The mill was bought 20 years ago, but I have used it as am "all manual" until recently,
when I had much boring to do.
This time I used the quill feed, and it worked great, but by the end of the job, would not trip...
