Your are right about that.... I have a full disconnect for shop power. I have unintentionally thrown that before shutting down the rpc.... lights act a little wonky from the rpc powering down and still attempting to supply power to the shop.
I've got a 20 hp rpc running running most of my shop, 7.5 hp pacemaker, 5 hp Reed Prentice, harding, delta vert. Saw, surface grinder...etc. When needed it works great. Think i paid a little over 1k for it.
Trade off, it's loud.... Did i mention its loud?
I've got a Bridgeport and a Sheldon...
It was called " I Wanna" in my neck of the woods.
I sure do miss that rag. Like the aforementioned paper, adds were free and cost was one dollar.

The reed roll threader previously mentioned will cover that much range and a bit more if I'm not mistaken.
It's very old school but a workhorse in the right situation.
The tooling will be a little pricey if still available... old surplus will be the ticket if properly tooled.

If i can answer any questions about them I'll be glad to.
We ran them in production, spark plug facility.
With all the track and cylinders in place they were spitting out 60 per min.
I could generally change out saddles, hinge assemblies with new threading dies, dialed in and running in...
Years ago I ran a stand alone reed roll threader.
Pretty sure this isn't what you meant but a stroll down memory lane.
Three five start dies... one had to take light impressions and rotate the dies for proper thread line- up.

I have used old pants legs or old towels for chucks, ways, tables. It's a bit of a pain but it works and it's cheap.
Generally only during springtime and fall.

Occasionally I make threaded screws out of copper rod. Made a fixture that would gang about 25 at a time in a straight line. Then grind a simple straight edge slot across the tops. Just kept the mag moving and dropping the slitting wheel fairly aggressively until I obtained the necessary depth...
I have a brown & sharp #2 horizontal with a vertical attachment and other misc. tooling.
I would be interested in selling, however I do live in sc which may be farther than you would want to travel.

Who was the guy that kept saying he had invented a PM contraption. If i remember it kinda looked like a spinning wheel. What i do remember he was persistent and somewhat disturbed.
We should get these two together, they would get along famously and solve the world's problems.

Any junk yard has flywheels galore... if you must persist in this... why reinvent the flywheel. Most small motors have flywheels. Lots of part motors to be found.

"So, to be useful, flywheel storage uses a high rpm"
Not always, look at your older John Deere tractors and stationery power engine. Low rpm with a massive flywheel. (Before some one corrects me size was relative to the tractor)
