Missing the ball stop ball
Part #1396
Any one that knows the size of it please let me know.
This is part of the 2 turns in and hits a hard stop, same as out when tumb screw is tightened, for threading.

Been a while since I tore down the L & S I had years back. I believe that ball is 1/4" diameter. Real easy to loose if not careful taking it apart.

I did find somebody with the measurement.
it's a 3/16th ball.
I know I can have the right one now. I don't know about recommended hardness for what I replace it with though.

Thanks John, would you have a idea what the arrow I drew on the screen is is? that a Spring or what
The second paragraph (if you can read same) tells about the assembly of thumb screw and what ever it is, but not what it is. I lean toward it being a compression spring

Collings,
I forgot to mention that part earlier. In most cases that arrowed part will always be a brass round insert under the thumb screw to give a solid stop for the mechanism without the risk of steel to steel contact that would scare the surface of the micrometer ball stop outer sleeve. Same system used on Southbend micrometer dials with thumb screw. Glad to see you're making such great friends with that aging Hobby Lathe!!

It turns out that is a copper plug that depresses With a ball that goes in there to friction stop to friction stop the ball stop see pictures attached
