3 inch shank boring bar

Make one with a boring cartridge for the tool pocket. Easy to fix blowouts and change insert shapes that way.

I am looking for a large boring bar that takes inserts with a 3 inch shank on it. I can't seem to find one.
1. How long ?
2. What configuration on the working end ?

Try Hemly's:
I would drive there (the new location) and ask, they had a bunch of NOS and slightly used in the back.
Also in their $5 lb bins.

I use Kennametal modular heads bolted to 1144 shank.

1144 has a damping property, makes a good bar material.

We made some out of old half shafts off a truck once, good material. ( biggest bar I’ve ever used, 10” diameter , 7’ long but that was a big craven lathe, the round button insert was 2” diameter and the finish was shite
So much for stiffness, we had to get it on a hbm to finish

If you will settle for a used one, you might give Anderson Tooling in Fairfield, Iowa a call:
641 469-6667

They took over a facility that was in the monorail business and had some large machines and a warehouse full of tooling for them. Some of the raw steel stock there was the size of a VW bug. But this was around 15 years ago so I don't know what is left or what they may have added since.
