Ok so it may not be perfect but it's the best Ive found so far. Go to a site like MSC tool holder section and filter by insert. They even show some discontinued items. If anyone got a better solution I'd love to hear it.

So this is...frustrating. seems like it's hard to find all the information in one place. And it also seems like they made this as hard as possible having different names for inserts and for Tool holders. If it was me, I would just have the insert name hyphenated into the tool holder name. DDJNR - DCMT 21.52 or the like so they come up in a search. Instead it looks like they use a completely different sizing and letter system for Tool holders. If anyone knows why that is, I'd love to know. I know in several teades they intentionally convolute identification systems to require "specialists" and reps. Have to wonder if that's the situation here.

I need to find something for the dcmt 21.52s and tpg322 I just got. I'd like a left and right tool 1" shank and a few different small boring bars. It seems like I know enough to closely order the wrong size. If you know precisely what I need, it would be a huge help to newb. Thanks

Dcmt 21.52
And tpg322

I'd also live recommendations on favorite holders and why. If you found an insert/tool that works really well, id love to hear about it.

Ps: why hasent any made an app that can identify tool holder options for inserts and the like.

In your search engine, key in those inserts separately and add "boring bar" to the query. That will give you an idea on what to be looking for.

"specialists" and reps
Call them and ask for the correct part that's what they are there for. If you are trying to save a buck by not buying from the agent that's a false economy for a newb. You will spend hours of valuable time going down the rabbit hole and potentially end up with the wrong item anyway.

Possibly right but if I can avoid pushy salesmen, I try.

Carbidedepot.com is the best insert definition table that I have used because it lists ANSI and ISO definitions together. However , there is no cross reference between the holder and required insert anywhere and that is solely needed.

That was my point of this thread. It's actually really stupid for anyone but experts in the field. Chat gpt4 couldn't figure it out either. Filter by insert on certain websites seem to work decent.

I actually found an old thread from years ago where the guy was looking for the exact inserts that I have, and while someone suggested a few options, the size of the insert was not included in the suggestion. I definitely ended up with the wrong size.

Just learn it. Print out the nomenclature charts for inserts, turning holders, and boring bars, and put them in a notebook or stick them on a wall, door or side of a filing cabinet for easy reference. Once you see how the insert and holder/bar naming systems interact, you'll quickly figure it out.

Of course, that only works for industry standard inserts and holders/bars. For proprietary stuff (and there's a huge amount of that, especially in lathe grooving and in milling), you simply have to consult the maker's catalogs, as there is no other source of information.
