I was sitting in front of my Arrow 750 the other day, deburring a part, when the external regen resistor burst into flames. I quickly hit the emergency stop and the flames died down and the resistor cooled off.
The next day I was able to make the spindle do its thing. i.e. spin and stop as it should, but when the machine was sat idle the regen resistor would then start to overheat again.
Please help me Cincinnati brain trust!

One or more regen IGBT has likely failed. If your drive is user serviceable there should be a procedure for checking and replacing the IGBT's. If it is not then you throw the drive away and buy a used/new one.

Hi Garwood,
The IGBT's in the PSR4/5A-250 check out ok. I did replace the one directly connected to the regen resistor because I had already purchased the replacement but it obviously made no difference.
The option of replacing it is turning out to be far too expensive. Most of the used ones available are in the USA (I'm in the UK) and shipping costs are coming out as more expensive than the units...
I purchased the whole machine for £1020.
