Electric and gasoline engine hp are exactly the same. The difference is that if you overload a gas engine it sputters and dies. An electric motor can put out 4 to 6 times its rated power for short periods of time. So if your machine requires full power intermittently for just a few seconds at a time then a smaller electric motor may do the job.
