I'm still reassembling my mill after a full strip and conversion to CNC, I have fitted ball-screws and had to get new X & Y axis end brackets as I am not refitting the old power-feeds.

The new brackets came with bearings installed, 2 in each.

Is there supposed to be a shim between the two bearings to set the pre-load?

I am asking because if i tighten the nut on the end, it seems to bind the bearings up which i am certain is not right.

Nothing seems to show in the parts lists.

Found it - the wrong bearings are fitted.

They should be ground/matched pairs that are correctly pre-loaded when pulled up tight, these look like standard bearings with a single felt seal, so i'll have to shim them for a little pre-load until i can get the right items.
