Bridgeport Mill Rebuild

In todays post we have a Bridgeport Mill that was in pretty bad shape when it came in with 50 thousandths backlash in the table feed, 60 thousandths backlash in the cross feed, and the scraping on all of the ways were completely worn off! This kind of wear makes using the machine extremely frustrating! When this customer reached out to us he was about to purchase a brand new machine. After a quick conversation and quote he was very enthusiastic about sending us his machine instead. While remaining several thousand dollars less than a new bare machine we were able to convert his machine to a 48" table, repair the variable-speed head, add a DRO and scales to all 3 axis, add power feeds to all 3 axis, add a power drawbar, re-scrape/master all mating surfaces, as well as painting and polishing all components. While this rebuild included many extra accessories, our standard rebuild runs about 1/3 the price of a new machine. Pictures of the finished product can be viewed below.

At Morrall Machine Service we have over 50 years of experience in the machine rebuilding and design industry. We put this knowledge to use in returning your worn out machines to factory tolerances. Specializing in Mitsui, Okamoto, and Harig Surface Grinders, Bridgeport Mills, and Hardinge Lathes.

This reads like an ad, which is a no-no here if you're not a site sponsor. You can post content that is informative, but this place is not intended to be used to drum up sales.

There is a forum section just for machine reconditioning here, which is where this should have been posted. Without the sales pitch. And this isn't very informative as far as your work quality. I see a ground table with some basically decorative flaking. If you want to show something that's going to say anything about the quality of your rebuilds, show some photos of the important stuff. Such as the actual way surfaces and prints of the surfaces in contact with a reference surface and/or each other.

Here is another really good machine rebuilder who specializes in Brideport's. The big Straight-edge he has hanging on the website picture used to be mine. He has a picture of straight-edges setting on a surface plate. Those are King-Way brand. He planned them for me.
