Can you identify this lathe?

This lathe is for sale in my area, but unfortunately the guy can't tell me what brand it is. I've looked through a bunch of pics on lathe.co.uk... there are just too many to look though!

There was something similar posted some time back that looked like that, IIRC it was a TOS.

The above link will get you to a previous discussion on what would appear to be the same lathe you are looking at. From the TOS stable, Checkoslavakian manufacture, when new, a pretty high class toolroom lathe. If you get down to the last post in the thread there is a good photo of one .

Many thanks guys. My friend and I went and looked at it today and we thought it might have been Czech. Looks very well built. The ways are worn a bit and the gear box sounds noisier than other gear head lathes I've used. But overall I think it's in decent shape.

We made a low ball offer, but now that we know what it is, I think we'll have at increase it. It's the perfect size for our shop and precious toolroom lathes are slim pickin's in western Canada.
