To balance the overweight condition. You know how long a full-bed lathe (vs this pedestal Axelson) weighs 19.8k?
Oh, I know...seen some very long bed lathes in my past. Some even had multiple bed sections that made up the length of the lathe. The longest Axelson I've run across was at a shop on the north side of downtown Houston several years ago. Every bit of 32 foot long. They had four of them, too!
