DeVlieg 43-72

Can anyone explain the model numbers I’ve seen on various DeVlieg’s? I know for example a 2B-36 has a 2 1/2” bar and 36” inches of X axis travel. What does the “3” stand for in the 43H-72 stand for? If correct, it’s an H model, a 4” bar and table that’s 72” long. But what’s the 3 mean? Thanks

A 43 is a 4" bar on a 3" frame. The platen will have the retraction of a 3" bar machine.

That begs the question- what was the idea to place a larger head on a smaller frame? Thanks
