I'm trying to ascertain the model and vintage of this
mill. I'm not at the site and the owner can't find a model number.
Any and all help would be deeply appreciated.

Id guess it to be a model 602 Excello since it looks similar to my 602 and also since the first three of the serial is 602 as well although I cant say for certain.

Looks like a run-of-the-MILL model 602 Excello.

Late 60’s, ‘69 to be exact. Nice manual mills if you’re into that sort of thing.

69 is the last two digits of the serial number. Given the riveted tag and a couple other details, it looks identical to a '72 version I worked on years ago. I'd be surprised if 1969 wasn't the actual year of manufacture.

Has the crazy belt-driven table power feed unit on it too. Cool.

I can probably get it cheap, but I'm trying to evaluate it and also decide if I have room for it. Any tips on what to look for, or other advice. ?

A good mill when new, or when barely used like the one I ran in training. Much beefier than a B-port. Would say similar to a TOS FNK 25. No idea how much wear the one in question has or how easy to repair worn heads. With head repairs, at least Bports are easy to work on and parts are cheap and available. Knee, saddle and table on an XLO would be an easy, but time consuming rescrape if so inclined.

Got to admit, were it me in the market now for a turret mill, I’d just buy a new Taiwan mill.

Yeah a 602 as mentioned. Canadian made. Went out of business around 1986. You can still find some parts for it. H&W repair carry the bearings for it.
