Resurrecting a dead thread. Figured this was the best place to ask a quest about a g&l 25.
after running spindle for a time oil leaks out of the bottom of headstock where splined vertical drive shaft goes through, even after you stop the spindle oil comes pouring out.
I removed the bottom cover and found it has a tube that goes up inside the lower bearing around splined shaft and a drain back hole on one side. the hole was not aligned with the hole in the head stock case. But even after I reinstalled it with the holes lined up it still leaks after running.
To be clear the oil is running down the splined shaft. the head stock oil level is at half way. I just got this machine not to long ago so I don't know how long this has been going on as the head stock was empty when I got it home.

my best guess now is that the oil is coming from top running down splined shaft though it's connection with worm gear and past both bearings and out bottom. looking for more input as I just don't know.

I can't say for sure but are you certain you have the oil level right? My G&L 340T only has about 2inches deep of oil in the headstock.

iso 68 oil, filled to half way in sight glass which is about 1 1/4- 1 1/2" of oil from bottom of sump.
