I am currently looking into making gears using the power skiving technique. I was wondering if this process is possible using a Haas lathe that has live tooling? I've researched the process, the spindle and tool speed required can be achieved using the Haas lathe with live tooling. I looked into doing it on a vertical mill with a 5th axis but the 5th axis could not attain the needed rpm. The last piece of the puzzle according to my research. Can you synchronize the lathe spindle with the live tooling?

if you look on MT Tool website they have two power skiving heads (VDI) of two different stroke lengths (25mm and 50mm I think) maybe these might be useful to you?

have you looked at the cost? we checked into it, the head is something like 12k, then you have to have a cutter made for your gear (or so we were told)... and as said, don't think haas has this option anyways
