We are looking at adding at least 1 5 axis mill to our shop. I was just wanting to get some pro's and con's of both machines. I know Haas are easy to learn and teach other people on since I have ran them for years, but I also know their support can be ...ummmm a little annoying at times. I also know Doosan are more rigid and to me are just as easy to program, but what are some of the lesser known pro's and con's?

I worked for a company that had the pallet changer version of that Doosan. My major gripe with the machine was that the pallet had a large hook on it (for shuttling the pallets to and from the work envelope) that made reaching the work piece a pain. I had to use 8+" gage length tooling to work near the pallet face when tilted around 90°. It was also pretty annoying for clearances as the axis tilts the work envelope away from the spindle so I was constantly having to stick my part out 12+" away from the pallet face to machine parts as the Y axis column would collide with the pallet/hook in some situations if you tried to keep your workpiece close to the pallet face. It was an older machine; probably 7 or 8 years old at this point so I don't know if that series ever got updated.

All that aside, I live in an area where the Haas dealer is terrible for service and the Doosan/DNS dealer was really good. That alone would be enough for me to look at DNS. That being said, I would check to see if the DVF series would fit your needs.

The VC630 has a 630MM table. Rather big and if you don't need that size table, don't go there. You either need much longer tools or you will be raising the part far off the table if you will be working at acute A Axis angles. DNS dos have a 500MM table and a 400MM table if that is closer to your needs.
Is that VC630 used? Because we don't build new ones of those anymore.

Yes it is used. Appreciate the feedback.

Nobody's gonna listen to me, deservedly so, but neither one would be on my first-page list. I just don't like the three axes stacked on top of each other thing, and there are so many others that don't do that.

Also, at 600 mm ... seems like that's almost getting into the area where you're better off having a head that swings all over, instead of slinging the part around. Depends on the work you're doing but ... worth looking at the nutating heads and so on at that size, maybe ?

Yes I am now looking at a dvf5000 or 4000 now. We make spindle brackets and they are mid sized so the smaller tables will not work but 600 to 650 might be a little too big.
