Hardinge Cataract Quick Change lathe questions

Como faço para postar as fotos de meu torno?

"How do I post pictures of my lathe?"

Posting photos on PM is a bit difficult to explain in English. Look at post number 1 in this thread, which is only seven years old and probably still works. Do you know how to use Google Translate?

Thanks for posting pictures of your lathe. You definitely have well tooled up system. A lot of the items you have are hard to come by.
For info I now have about 60 serial numbers catalogued of lathes that still survive. However some serial numbers are hard to confirm as
there was never any contact with the owner. I wish you all the best in using this lathe.

falcaogodoy,

Thanks for posting those pictures! I have a lathe like it. Mine is SN 246. That divider on the headstock is very interesting. Would you please post more pictures of it? Thanks!

Hello, All; I'm a newbie to this forum, and have some questions for all you Hardinge experts out there. I salvaged
a Hardinge Cataract Quick Change toolroom lathe, looks to be 9" X 28". I saved it from going to the dump; have cleaned it up, and am operating it now. 1) Its serial number is 7650, stamped both on the headstock and the tail end of the bed. Any idea of the date? 2) What is the proper setup for the metric bracket and gears? 3) Would anyone have drawings for the circular wooden collet rack that was mounted under the chip pan?

I found most of the tooling for this lathe, including the steady and follower rests, metric bracket and 127 tooth change gear, 18 other change gears, several chucks, and a faceplate. Included was the original Hardinge 2 speed overhead motor drive. There is also a block that fills a hole in the middle of the bed near the headstock --- it's some sort of bed extension for the tailstock or steady rest to ride on. Like a filler for a gap bed, but only for the center ways.

Any help would be appreciated, and I'd like to join the informal Hardinge Cataract Club! Cheerio, -- Henry
I just purchased 6589 in Downsville Louisiana Feb 15 2024. A guy on youtube has 6588..blew my mind...I'm doing a comprehinsive teardown and restoration on youtube@genxgeorge over the next few months so anyone who has the 50 or less known to exist can get a good look inside her. . It shows zero signs of actual use. All the gears inside and out look new. Super tight. It came with 35 collets, 3 chucks, center rest, tail stock, 30+ cutting bits, both sets of gears, 6 calipers, live center, tailstock drill chucks, original motor and mounting frame and still has the original wooden handles on the motor assembly. It came from an ancient man who was in his 90's and apparently just a hobbiest. His property flooded and it was under water about 2 weeks. His neighbor brought it to his house and stored it in a shed. I accidentally found it looking for an exhaust fan for my shop. Wish I knew how it got to North Louisiana.
