How do I get a stepper motor to spin?

Linear, probably. They're multi-turn trimmer pots, usually 10 turn. You can replace them with a different (smaller) value and some fixed resistors to get it to behave better. The "103" means theyre 10K ohms.

The tester allowed me to verify the motors work...and after some measurement I can tell you they spin at a whopping 10 RPM. But that's fast enough as the reels they spin are 5" diameter which translates to a pretty good surface speed....much faster and you wouldn't be able to read the reels.
