Checking things like G81 format will have to wait until I'm back at work tomorrow, but I can't explain why you can't use G17 or G80. I think that may be a mistake on your part, perhaps you misunderstood where a syntax error was actually coming from, since the control only shows you which line has an error, and isn't more specific.

I can think of one possible reason why you might get an error with G41/G42.

In the tool setup page you can enter a tool diameter and a wear diameter. The control uses both of these when comp is turned on with G41/G42. If your posted code is for wear compensation only (which is likely) then you must make sure the tool diameter is not entered in tool setup.
 
bigjon61 I've recently started working on a HURCO CNC milling machine, and I'm enjoying it so far. I like the fact that it's beginner-friendly, even though I haven't had the chance to work on complex parts yet. For my current projects, I use manual programming with canned cycles, which are sufficient for my needs since the parts are not too complicated and the series is usually between 2 and 31 pieces. However, I'm finding the programming logic to be quite different from what I'm used to, and I'm struggling with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not ahit talking when I say this, but you gotta jump on the conversational side of the control. It's the tits. For simple stuff like drilling/tapping/reaming holes, simpler profiling, bolt hole circles, it simply can't be beat (and Haas tried). Your more complicated stuff I would run through CAM when more control is needed over toolpaths or if there is a shit load of holes. Trying to train over text would be a pain. Hurco offers a lot of training videos online, but most if not all are for the Winmax control or newer. The principles are the same but appearance and location of different menus and features are different. Still very helpful.
