From American Machinist magazine---

The parent companies of DMG America, Giddings and Lewis, and Fadal Machining Centers are looking at combining their metalcutting machine tool activities.

Representatives of Gildemeister Aktiengesellschaft, Bielefeld, Germany, and ThyssenKrupp Technologies AG, Essen, Germany, agreed to examine pooling their metalcutting resources. ThyssenKrupp Technologies is part of the ThyssenKrupp Group. The move reportedly would strengthen Gildemeister's position in the machine tool sector while making ThyssenKrupp its largest single shareholder without gaining control. A possible merger would also strengthen Gildemeister's presence in North America and some key European markets and increase both companies' presence in Asia. Gildemeister manufactures turning, milling, and laser/ultrasonic machines. ThyssenKrupp companies make horizontal and vertical machining centers, turning centers, lathes, boring mills, and manufacturing centers.
