I'd like to find out what type of steel material would be Used To replace the nails that are holding the jaws to this Vice. It doesn't seem at all correct to me. And I wanna know what exactly needs to be done

Traditionally, Dowelybdenum steel was always specified in this application, due to the demanding shock loads and compression-expansion cycles. But like everything good it was outlawed decades ago. You might be able to find some on the black market. Otherwise most prefer to use Doweladium, but even that has become difficult to source.

If you need nails find a carpenter, they will have something that will fit. It just looks like you need bigger ones that will fill the hole. Or any other soft material to make them from.
All it does is keep the jaw from falling off.....
