Lathe identification

I just bought a South Bend lathe with a serial number of 4418. Not sure of year or model and could not find any other numbers or letters. Any help would be appreciated.

Would have to be pretty old since they were up to 28714 by the time 1925 rolled around

Yeah, there are these things called "photographs" that are really amazing! They can show amazing depictions of the actual object! Maybe you should look into them.
 
I sure like the smartass remarks from people. Maybe you should keep your opinions to yourself.

It indeed looks like an early one.You can check Mr Wells serial number page(pointing up)showing at the top of the page.Now hopefully the hawkeyed experts will be able to tell you just how original it is. Very nice. I have a 1928 model and as long as I treat it as such, it is a pleasure to use and useful for my needs.
