$21/hour to start depending on experience on up to $30+/hr for someone that knows the difference between a 3-way and 5-way pneumatic valve, can drill and tap a backpan and mount electrical components, and can take a ballscrew out of a spindle without losing all the ball bearings in the process.

Running the ballnut off the end of the screw is totally not a mistake I would make... twice. In my (very slight) defense, the screw was in a blind pocket and you couldn't see the free end.
