Spyderco Native 5 in Maxamet is my most used knife. Not for rough use but holds an edge forever, it's like magnetic ceramic. I would never go back to softer steel after having knives with good, hard steel.

Daily carry for me for about the last decade or so has been a Kershaw Leek. They've gone up in price a lot since I got mine though. Handy to use with the assisted opening and I like the pocket clip.
I think it's made in Portland, OR.

This looks ideal ~ I'm not responsible enough to be a "knife" owner 'cuz I just leave / lose any vaguely expensive knife. These days I just leave those colorful ceramic coated kitchen knives variously around the barn for cutting bails of hay and shavings ... Although I have found plenty of serviceable folding knives here and there left and lost by other people almost long gone.

Maybe it's a "Farm thing" to not own expensive knives that are inevitably going to get lost on whatever barns and acreage and machinery you have.

If I bought a Grimsbo "Level" knife I'd have to mount it into a shadow box on the wall and never use it - so I wouldn't lose such an astonishing and expensive modern artifact.

Aren't switchblades illegal?

Or just in West Side Story?

Technically, assisted opening knives are not switchblades. On switchblades the blade is always under spring tension to open. Pushing a button let's it go.
Assisted opening knives don't have spring pressure trying to open them until the blade has pivoted a certain amount of degrees. The initial force to open is from your finger and then the spring assists the opening. On my Kershaw the spring is actually helping hold the blade closed when it's in the closed position.
Depending on where I am at the time I might decide to open it slowly with two hands though! LOL.

Kershaw make a great knife. they hold an edge beautifully. And best of all, made in the good ole U.S.A.
I agree with Loggerhogger, but Kershaw does sell some import knives that look like the USA made Kershaws. I have one Ken Onion {3"} style that is a good knife. I also bought a small Kershaw that wasn't worth carrying home. You will pay at least $60.00 bucks for a good Kershaw. If it is priced in the mid $30.00's, don't bother.

Not a pocket knife but seldom without my elliptical utility knife with pocket clip. It's not a big clunky thing. I abuse the heck out of it and just pop in a new blade. Fits my hand and its unconsciously opened way before it gets to where it's gonna cut. It might have cost $10.

Oh boy, another way to spend my $$$. I want ALL of them.

But I am hooked on Swiss Army with their multiple features. When I sharpen one to the point of being dangerous in my pocket, I just buy another. I have two pockets and keep a "tool kit" style one in the left one.

I post about my pocket knife choice every few years when we have one of these threads.
Do you guys listen?
No!….

Well in any case I have one of the Emerson ‘mini’s with me all the damn time.
I never sharpen them so eventually they are fairly dull which suits as they serve as a pry bar scraper general poke things which need more persuading than my fingers can manage.

I must use the knife twenty times a day and feel lost without it.
These are thick stainless bladed utility type knives.

I'm considering something similar myself ... but the bad part is, a guy's gotta sleep sometime ...

Looks like she knows which end to hold. Did she really truncate those water bottles? Related to the young woman repairing a generator - "She is stronger than she looks"?

I know that this is a zombie thread that's about 13 years old, with some now-gone-but-not-forgotten members (thinking of norm) but I will point out that in my experience one tends to lose knives before one wears them out. Case in point (two puns there, in memory of Mr. Atkinson), a few years ago when I could still run 6 miles, I found a Swiss Army knife on the road. Aluminum scales. Damaged either from falling from a car or bike and being run over. Took it home, opened up the squashed parts, and it's perfectly serviceable as a cutting tool. Less so as a presentation gift. Its pretty rough. But when the original owner dropped it, it was likely far from worn out or broken.
It looks like this, only lots worse:

The think lists for $46 these days, so I probably wouldn't buy one for myself.
Weird - years ago (35 years ago) I had the same exact knife ... Just scrolled up.

Yeah it's a really good pocket knife. Basic / slim

Has anybody here splurged on a Grimsmo knife? Those run $1k or more, I think, and they seem to have a long waiting list. Put your name on the list and when it comes up you get a choice of a few colors, finishes, etc. based on whatever they've finished recently. So far, I've managed to make due with a little Viktronix pocket knife or a Leatherman.

Legal in Florida if you have a concealed carry permit.
Bought myself an OTF not too long ago, wanted one since I was a kid, and now I can finally have one!
