Oil for the knee of K&T

What oil do you use in the horizontal 2 H . The old book says 30 weight gear oil. If I have it right it takes about 8 gallons or more.

I use an ISO 68 hydraulic oil in the knee and column. The knee holds abou 1-1/2 gallons and the column about 2.

I use Exxon Nuto 68 in my 2hl in the column and knee.. Works fine.. Mike

I just changed the oil in my knee and used Mobil DTE 100 (SAE 30 wt) circulating oil.
I ordered mine from Enco using the free shipping code, which seems like a good deal considering I needed 6 gallons.

Regardless of what you use I would recommend a non-detergent oil such as the one above, so it doesn't hold all the particulate in suspension.
