Optical Tool Presetter for Part Inspeciton

I am interested in buying an optical tool presetter like the Zoller Smile and was wondering if it could double as an inspection tool for small turned parts. I would be interested in measuring diameters, corner radiuses/chamfers, groove widths, runout, shoulders etc for one off or first article parts. I know that there are optical comparators specifically made for this purpose, but it would be convenient to have a tool that could do both tool measurement and part measurement. I don't see what the difference is if the parts can be mounted in tool holders just the same as tools. Has anyone tried this before? Any reason why it shouldn't work? All input is much appreciated.
